## Can't get LaTex to render

1. Just starting to use WP. Set up a test blog on wordpress.com. Am interested in math so I pasted in the LaTex example

$latex i\hbar\frac{\partial}{\partial t}\left|\Psi(t)\right>=H\left|\Psi(t)\right>$

directly out of the instructions at http://en.support.wordpress.com/latex/.

However when I posted this to my blog, it just echoed the LaTex code and did not render the formula. What am I doing wrong

The blog I need help with is testing27.wordpress.com.

2. Hi,

Make sure when you copy/paste the LatTeX example the strong (bold) tag doesn't get selected. (I think the editor automatically does that if you copy the example from the support page because that example is bolded.)

I deleted the strong tag from your latest post, and the LaTeX is rendering properly.

3. you also want to make sure you are copy /pasting LaTeX into HTML window and not the Visual window on the editor page.
The tabs are at the top of the editor box.

4. you wrote:
$latex i\hbar\frac{\partial}<br /> {\partial t}\left|\Psi(t)\right>=H<br /> \left|\Psi(t)\right>$ You should use < instead of < and > instead of >. Try it.

5. oooff... Last two codes are < and > respectively.

6. ohno.... How can i write?! & l t ; and & g t;

7. Yes, thanks all. The Bold attribute was the problem. Also thanks for pointing me to visual versus HTML mode. Lots to learn!

8. Well, i still have the original problem. i am running wordpress 3.1.3, my own hosted site on dreamhost. My latex is unrendered. i type in $latex x_i$ in html mode and that is exactly what i get -- no latex. see http://www.incompleteideas.net/blog/?p=5

9. @richsutton99: You are currently in a WordPress.COM forum. If you are running the self-hosted version of WordPress, please note that Latex may not work exactly the same way, so our answers may not apply to your situation. I suggest you ask instead at http://wordpress.org/support/

10. I'm thinking that Latex is one of the choices one can include when one installs JetPack and I'm wondering if richsutton99 has installed JetPack or not. http://jetpack.me

11. this is the wordpress.COM forum.

This is the wordpress.COM

your blog is a selfhosted blog with the WordPress.ORG blog and site building package.

the plug-in is at http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-latex/
for plugins Faqs

head to the WordPress.org at forums

for support.

12. Well forget what I just said, I was not aware that jetpack comes with Latex.

13. Thank you all for clearing this up. As a newbie, I was unaware that wordpress.com was just a different product from wordpress.org. I have since installed the WP QuickLaTeX plugin and all latex is now working well for me.
Thanks for your quick responses!
