Can't link anything in my post right now.

  • I’ve tried several times to link some other blogs to my post today and WP isn’t letting me. The link icon is lighter colored than the other icons in the visual view, and when I click on it, it doesn’t do anything. When I go to the text view and try to link, it starts the linking process so that I can paste the address I’m linking to, but when I click the “Add Link” button, nothing happens.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Try highlighting the text you want to link first, you should then be able to use the link button. :)

  • I did that. I’ve linked before and never had issues. Today, for some reason, it’s causing me problems.

  • It should indeed normally work just when you click the button, but it will always definitely work when you highlight the word.

    Has this happened to you before, and if so, does it usually just go away on its own?

  • No, it’s never happened before. And I have highlighted the word every time and it’s not linking.

    I forgot to mention also that when I’m in text view and click on the “Add Link” button and nothing happens, the window stays there and won’t leave, even when I click on the X in the upper-right corner.

  • Oh, that is very strange, it should always work if you highlight the link first, sorry! Let’s see if we can rule-out a browser problem first.

    First, please make sure that your browser is up to date by visiting http://whatbrowser.org/

    If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.

    If it is, please do these four things:

    1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies: http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/

    2. Make sure that you have third-party cookies enabled: http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/

    3. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.

    4. Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/

    Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.
