Can’t start a blog

Hi.
I just joined WordPress.com on Saturday, 8/22/2009, in part because WordPress came highly recommended and in part because WordPress’s promo info said it was easy to “start a blog faster than you can read this sentence.” I managed to create an account and log in, but when it came time to create a blog, I could find nothing anywhere about how to create a blog.
So then I went to the WordPress faq page, where it gave instructions on how to create a blog. But when I went back to the area where I was logged in, none of the choices that the WordPress site said to choose, on both the left and right of the screen, were visible. I figured it was maybe a technical problem, so I figured I’d give it a day, but I just logged in and I still can’t see those options — there’s still nothing showing up anywhere that gives me an option for creating blogs, not even one.
I also sent an e-mail to WordPress support, which is supposed to be available 24/7. It’s now been nearly 24 hours since I sent that e-mail, and I’ve yet to receive a reply.
Anyone have any suggestions? WordPress looks like a pretty flexible blogging program, but it doesn’t do me much good if I can’t create any blogs. You did not specify a blog address or reason for posting when you created this topic.
This support forum is for WordPress.com hosted blogs only. If you have a self-hosted WordPress blog you need to seek help at the WordPress.org forums, not here.
If you don’t understand the difference, you may find this information helpful.

this happened to me too! can anyone offer advice? i have a wordpress.com hosted blog. when i try to sign up with my username it says the blog is taken (i know, by me!) but when i try to modify anything on that starter blog, none of the tools shown on the support page are there. so somehow i managed to start this blog that exists but doesnt register on my user homepage. please help.
We cannot help you without a link to your blog, starting with http.
This is happening to me on the hosted service as well. How can we provide a URL for our blogs if we can’t create them in the first place?
When I signed up I didn’t choose “just gimme a blog” because I wanted to read about how one uses WordPress first. I assumed it would be possible to create a blog when I was ready.
The link tellyworth provided seems to work, but why is there no option to create a blog on the “My Blogs” page?
There is on the my blogs page at lower right.
