Can't Wrap Text – Can't Insert Pics
WP will save my pics, but will not allign them, insert them or wrap text. It will not retain Style info I insert at the gallery or media library. I am performing it the same way this week as last. Have tried it using Chrome (on both PC and a Mac) and Safai (mac only of course).
It also will not switch back and forth between Visual and HTML – even when cache is emptied.
Here’s what I’ve tried –
Inserting through gallery and media library
Saving changes before inserting post
Uploading to Media Library before inserting into post
Doing everything in HTML
Saving and refreshing the cache after every small change to pic file
I gather it’s better to enter pics in HTML mode b/c everytime I try visual it immediately disregards the changes.
New to web publishing here, so apologies if this is not enough info, or if it’s placed in the wrong forum.
I have exhausted hours trying to simply get text to wrap – have tried video tutorials which I am following to the letter.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. WordPress certainly abandoned support.
The alignment icons in the WordPress editor are for aligning text; they are not for aligning images. http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#alignment They are used to achieve wrapping text around images on either the right or left hand side, or to display an image that’s centered without text on either side of it. If the text beside the images does not occupy the same amount of space that the image beside it does then the text wrapping will continue and the images and text that follow will have a staggered appearance.
Align-left means position left, with the rest of the content wrapping around the right side of the image.
Align-right means position right, with the rest of the content wrapping around the left side of the image.
Align-center means position center, with no wrap-around (= the rest of the content below the image).
Every theme has a maximum displayed image width http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/07/23/maximum-image-width/ so it’s important to keep that in mind when posting multiple images side-by-side. If you want two images to be side by side on the same line start by setting the alignment of both images to left. To prevent the staggered effect what you do is insert the following snippet of code into the HTML editor after each image/text pair:
<br style=”clear:both;” />
Note: Post an active links starting with http:// to the exact blog in question when you post to these support forums. Better still link you primary blog to your username and always provide the URL for any blog you need help with when it’s not the one linked to your username.
Here’s how to link your username to your blog in your blog Dashboard -> Users -> Personal Settings -> then scroll down to Account Details. Then scroll down to where it says ‘Primary Blog‘ select the URL for your primary wordpress.com blog and then save changes. Now every time you sign into the forum we can all click on your username and your blog will be linked to it. And every time you leave a comment on a blog your username can be likewise clicked and your blog can be instantly located.
WordPress certainly abandoned support.
Given the fact that you failed to provide a link to your blog and got support within 1 minute of posting your thread here that’s silly statement that cannot be substantiated.
Thanks for the super quick reply. I never used the Editor Tabs for pics as I assumed they were just for text. Yet you say they are for aligning text to wrap- so maybe I need to play with them for getting the text correctly wrapped. Still, even if it wraps correctly – it is still not saving changes.
The pic size might be an issue, but I’ve tried everything from thumbnail to full size.
Whenever I apply a new allignment inside Edit Photo, it never sticks.
Yes, silly. Back and forth typing is much more time effective the talking over the phone. It is such a joy, and to think WordPress is passing the savings on to WordPress.
I work for a site – it is not my call whether to put their name into a forum. I can email it.
Would looking at the forum as a standard web viewer help? I will gladly email it to you. I don’t know if I’m talking with a WP rep or just a helpful person. Thanks either way.
I work for a site – it is not my call whether to put their name into a forum.
Please read this and comprehend why we need to know exactly which site you are referring to. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate sites. The answer to the same questions are not the same. In order to provide accurate answers we must ascertain whether or not you are among the 30% posting here whoare posting to the wrong support forum and ought to be posting to http://wordpress.org/support/instead.
I don’t mean to sound snarky – and I did think this was WordPress’ official forum.
You asked me once to provide the blof and I explained why I can’t provide it. You telling me to comprehend it doesn’t change my reason for not having the authority to do so. If you need to know the version I’m using, then kindly tell me how to provide it and I’ll do so.
But by using words like ‘comprehend’ and ‘refusing’ you are making me outsomeone as doing something wrong when ALL I am doing is reaching out for help and being open about what I can share.
Can you comprehend that?
I can comprehend that you are refusing to provide the URL. Your client is either payinga web host to host a WordPress.org or they have a free blog from and being free hosted by WordPress.com hosting. I assume you can read this http://wordpress.org/support/ for clarity and determine whether or not you are posting to the wrong support forum.
My client pays for the service, I think it might be GoDaddy but not sure. That might just be set up for the email we use. That’s as much detail as I have.
If the blog is being hosted by GoDadady then it’s running on WordPress.org software http://wordpress.org/ and not the wpMU (wordpress multiuser) software that free hosted WordPress.com blogs run on. You will have to confirm whether or not that is the case with your client. If the site is being hosted by GoDaddy then the correct support forum for the site is here http://wordpress.org/support/ and the support documentation that applies to it is found here http://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page
Here’s what you’ve typed…
‘refusing to provide’
(I have explained several times I don’t have that authority)
‘read this and comprehend’
)do you ever have actual contact with humans)
“i assume you can read’
I don’t know where your hostilely is coming from, but I’ll look for help with someone not so self important and constantly condescending.
Timethief – what a completely apt name
If you do not know who is hosting the site you are hired to work on then it stands to reason that you may not be posting to the correct support forum. As you are either unwilling or unable to accept the responsibility of contacting your client and determining who hosts that site I am finished with you.
Yes, – plenty of other strangers to be needless rude to. All the best.
Where is raincoaster when we really need her??
Yes, – plenty of other strangers to be needless rude to. All the best.
As a volunteer moderator I can honestly say that no one on this forum has been rude to you.
If you cannot or will not provide a link to the site you need help with, then the only solution is for us (me or another volunteer) to modlook this thread and you must be patient until a staff person looks into these forums to assist you.
We do not even know if you are in the correct forum without a link to the blog/site you are asking about. Please read timethief’s answer above because you may or may not be aware that there are different flavors of wordpress and answers for each different version are specific. What applies to one does not necessarily apply to another.
Note, if you click on “member” below your name, you will see that the other threads on this same topic have been closed. Posting multiple threads on the same topic wastes time (yours, and the time we volunteers spend) and makes for confusion and unnecessary anger.
Thanks any and everyone for the help, and apologies to all if frustration spilled onto the keyboard. But if can objectively read what I read and not sense rudeness there – then we’ll just have to agree to disagree.
I can’t find any WordPress.com blogs registered under your account.
Would you please tell us what the URL of your WordPress.com blog is?
If this is in regards to a self-hosted WordPress(.org) blog, please note that we can only support WordPress.com blogs here.
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities.
We do offer yearly and one-time premium support packages for self-hosted WordPress sites through our VIP program, available at http://vip.wordpress.com
