Categories don’t work

    I am sorry if there is already a topic like this one, but i couldn’t find any, so i am starting this one.

    From few days i have a BIG problem with the category widget in ALL my blogs.

    For example:
    When you click at any of the category’s you get the mesige:
    Error 404
    Sorry, but you are looking for something that is not here

    Some of the category’s are working, but on most of them i get:

    Looks like you have a problem here sir/madam. You sure you have the right place? Maybe you got a little lost? Maybe you’re looking for something you’re not supposed to find? Either way, just go search for it, it can’t hurt.

    But you can cleary see, that i have 46 post’s in this category (for example).

    Totally not cool!
    +top clicks widget is not working, but this is another topic.

    I am sorry to sound a little bit irritated, but i am actually a little bit irritated :)
    Not having my category’s in order is really annoying and it looks kind of… lame.

    The top clicks widget error has already been reported by several people, so hopefully staff are looking into that.

    As for the categories, I’m afraid I can’t read them but is it possible the ones that are screwing up have punctuation in the titles? I suspect it’s a language issue. Here’s an example of how one of the categories that screws up looks:

    Whereas in the widget it’s just:
    На четири очи (1)



    Bottom line: I think you will need to report this to staff when they re-open in the morning.

    (and in case staff are reading this thread, is there any way you could exempt me from the “Slow down, you move too fast” warning? It’s getting in the way)



    Yup i tough about the language, but then…

    Интернет (19) – working fine;

    + this is cirilic, and it is kind of strange if it is not “supported”
    + it was working just fine, a week ago.


    I really hope, that there will be a solution soon, because changing all my category’s name to ENG don’t sound like a good idea :D



    No, don’t do anything drastic until you talk to staff. Report it in the morning and hopefully they’ll get back to you. I’m afraid I’m all out of ideas.



    We do have a similar problem @

    Actually some of our categories just do not open.
    We receive an error message in bulgarian language that there are no publications matching our request (?!?)
    Also the categories that do not open randomly change in a few hours :)
    Our readers are becoming un-patient – any ideas?

    Seems to be a general problem: happens to me, too, plus to several blogs I checked.

    The behavior is quite erratic: some categories might work while others won’t, and the same category might work now but not later or vv.

    One of my friends uses the Hemingway template. There, in addition to a message similar to the one quoted by strangera, I also get the following (false) explanation:
    “Why am I seeing this?
    You requested a page that doesn’t exist on this site any more. This could be caused by a link you followed that was out of date, by a typing in the wrong address in the address bar, or simply because the post has been deleted.”

    The same thing may happen with post titles (Chaotic Soul -used by strangera and me- and a couple of other templates display lists of titles, not complete posts, when you click on a category).

    I wonder if it has to do with the fact that we don’t write in English (strangera and angua: Cyrillic; me and the other blogs I checked: Greek).



    I, indeed, confinm what panaghiotisadam is saying in the above post. I contacted Support 2 days ago, I did not get any feedback and the problem persists. This is very annoying, does anyone know if there is a confirmed bug, or can it be a language problem (I use Greek)?



    Wow. Heck I can’t get different catagories in the first place without putting the same info on every one, but the inability to go to different catagories is more than frustrating. Maybe it’s a bug like you suggested, pianoeforte.

    I’m writing in English but I’ve been having several problems with categories too. My posts show more categories than my Manage Categories page. I didn’t delete those categories but when I go to Manage Categories, they seem to have vanished. When I check the posts, however, they’re still there!

    It sounds like themagickbox has a completely different problem, but without a link to the blog we won’t be able to make any guesses.



    We had a problem on some servers with permalinks using non-ASCII characters, which gave the 404 error message. We are sorry for the problems. This problem is fixed, but we need to manually fix any blogs that ran into this problem.     Thank you very much, mtdewvirus. I just went through all my permalinks twice on Safari and once on Firefox, and the dreaded message did not appear this time.
