category heirarchy

    I’m trying to reduce the category + tag total for my posts and I’m hoping that that is what category hierarchy’s are for. I’ve just assigned the category for the various bands I refer to as children of the “music” category. Does this mean that I can stop assigning “music” as a category to those posts without loosing the search benefits?

    I’ve also been assigning the “lyrics” category to a subset of those same posts where it seemed appropriate. Is there a way to reduce the count even further? Note that there are other cases where I want to apply what I learn here.
