change viewers to authors?
I would like to change my students from viewers to authors, but they do not show up in the user list. Thank you for any suggestions you can offer.
The blog I need help with is aventuraslocas.wordpress.com.
Adding Viewers to a Private Blog
If you want others to be able to view your private blog (and add comments, if you’ve enabled them) you’ll need to invite them to be a viewer. http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#adding-viewers-to-a-private-blog
After they accept the invitations to become viewers you can change their user roles > http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#changing-user-roles
Hi, and thank you for the response. Maybe I didn’t explain it right. They were already invited and had already accepted (as viewers), but none of them show up in my users/all users list, so I couldn’t change their status. I then resent each one an invitation as “author”, but even the ones who have accepted that still cannot post comments.I hope you can tell me what I’m doing wrong! Thanks again.
Thanks for the clarification. I’m flagging this thread for Staff attention. Please be ptient while waiting for their help.
What is the URL of the blog you can’t add folks to?
Hi, it’s aventuraslocas.wordpress.com I have it set as private, for my Spanish class to share photos, comments on short stories and poetry, etc.
It looks like none of your invited Authors have accepted their invitations. You might want to try re-sending the invitations from Users -> Invite New in your blog’s Dashboard.
That’s exactly what I did the second time. Only one is showing up as accepted (in my list of Past Invitations, not users list), and she told me that the site would not let her add a comment.
Thank you for your thoughts.
Do you think it makes sense to send a third invitation, or just wait to see what happens after more of them accept the second one? I just think it’s odd that apparently the student who did accept it still can’t do anything. I wonder if she created a wordpress account.
Hm, that’s rather odd. Was she one of the Viewers before?
Yes, she was initially a viewer. After her name it shows the date of the 2nd invitation (when I invited her to be an author) and says ”accepted”.
We’re new to wordpress – this is a new blog – so I’m sure there must be a simple reason, but so far
I just can’t figure it out.
I have same problem, none of users I have created show up in my users/all users list, so I couldn’t change their status.
Viewers are listed at Settings -> Privacy in your blog’s Dashboard.
In both of your cases, please try removing them from the list there, then re-invite them as Authors.
Viewers are not listed at Settings -> Privacy in my blog’s Dashboard. I’ll do it again.
Specifically, which blog are you referring to?
In the aventuraslocas.wordpress.com blog, I have gotten notices that several students accepted the new invitation, and I added them. However, only one is showing up in the users list on the dashboard. So far no one has been able to publish a post, even though it says they have author status.
Thanks again for you assistance.
update – one person just was able to post! Maybe this problem is going to be resolved after all!
Of the invited Authors, I only see 3 who have not yet accepted the invitation. You might want to resend those.
As for the Authors who can’t post, please ask them to try logging out/in again.
Thank you, I will recommend that they do that. In the meantime, out of the original 10 invitees, there are 5 who show up in the users list, instead of 8. I’m guessing they haven’t completed the registration process for their wordpress accounts? Or something like that.
The 11th invitation I actually sent to myself about 24 hours ago, to a different email address, because I wanted to see what was going on from a user’s perspective. However, that invitation still has not arrived.
Will keep you posted. Thanks again, macmanx!
Yes, those are the 3 who have not yet accepted their invitation. They won’t appear in the Users list until they accept their invitation, but you can still see them at Users -> Invite New.
