I’ve been using the Customize feature in the toolbar (under “Look and Feel”) to edit the appearance of my site. The changes are saving properly (every time I go to Customize, I can see the changes I made the last time I was there), but not publishing to the actual site itself. What might the cause of this be? How can I get my changes to apply to my site?

The blog I need help with is chrisgeorgegamedesign.com.

i am having the same problems too and its quite annoying. but ive noticed its only since ive made changes today and also changing my theme. did you change your theme? i went from the theme ‘cubic’ to ‘parament’, so not sure if this is affecting it or maybe the network at wordpress.com is playing up??

No, I haven’t changed my theme. But I’ve been facing this problem while trying to edit my site for a while now- at least a week.

Have you consulted this support doc? https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/

If you have not purchased the custom design upgrade, then note that no changes you try out aside from those such as Custom Background, Custom Header, etc. which are stated on the theme description pages in the features column (right hand side) will be visible to visitors.

For details read Custom design – Frequently Asked Questions
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#frequently-asked-questions
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/editing-css/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/custom-fonts/

If you purchase the upgrade please use this link https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization#postform so you can copy and paste your text into a thread that will appear in the CSS Forum where you will get the help you need.

You do not need to load the design tools unless you have the Custom Design upgrade. All of these functions can be accessed from your dashboard – without loading the custom design tools – no upgrade required.
    Appearance > Header
    Appearance > Background
Appearance > Theme Options (applicable only to some themes)
Settings > Reading (set a static front page)
Site Title and Tagline > Settings > General

If you are using the preview mode for the Custom Design upgrade some of the settings in that mode will save but they won’t show up on the front end unless you purchase the upgrade.

To go back to the free options, go to Appearance → Themes → Customize → Colors and click the “exit the preview” link in yellow at the top of the panel on the right.

Your username account was registered after September 1st, 2014.Please read what I posted above and know that in your case you will have to purchase the premium upgrade to take on any CSS editing. See here for details on purchasing the annually renewable Premium bundle http://store.wordpress.com/plans/premium/ that contains a custom design upgrade required for CSS editing.

There’s been a change in the underlying software we use so that any background or header change is now accomplished in the Customizer. Please see this Staff reply: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/custom-background-and-header-links-in-admin-panel-redirect-to-customize-page?replies=46#post-2416182

The most important point is to first click the “Exit the Preview” link in the Custom Background & Colors or the Custom Design preview and the Customizer should reload and allow you to change your theme’s background.

If you are still having trouble with that, or that didn’t answer your question, please post back here.

Thanks for that heads up- bookmarked. Frankly, I avoid using theme customizer whenever possible.
