Changing Blog Address
Hey. I’m a little WordPress challenged so please bear with me.
I have two sites (one regular WP.com Blog and a WP.org site hosted on godaddy). I would like to eliminate the Godaddy site and change my current blog address to my “http://stephangiannini.com” domain. The advantage to me is only one site to update and my godaddy site only allows 25 MB of data.
As I understand I can just pay my money to WP.com and follow the instructions for “Map an Existing Domain”. I would then “add a domain” on the Domains page of my dashboard and my blog would change addresses from “http://chicagopainter.wordpress.com/ ” to “http://stephangiannini.com”. And everything would remain the same on my blog except the address?
Also It seems I could get a redirect that would lead people to the new domain name if they ever clicked on links that led to the old blog address?
Is my understanding of this all correct?
Would people who have subscribed to my blog via RSS or as an email subscription continue to receive notices when I posted?
Also after my current domain registration expired with Godaddy could I just register my domain with WordPress?
The blog I need help with is chicagopainter.wordpress.com.
Yes, you’re correct on all accounts except the domain expiration.
Never let your domain expire. When a domain expires, it is initially awarded to the registrar and passes through several hands (including back-orders and domain auction sites) before it is returned to the open market in about 90 days.
Unfortunately, we can’t accept incoming domain transfers, so I recommend keeping the domain with GoDaddy, or transferring it to another registrar if you’re unhappy with their service.
Just because I was not sure if you included this in your answer:
Would people who have subscribed to my blog via RSS or as an email subscription continue to receive notices when I posted after I changed the blog address?
Yes, they will remain subscribed to your RSS feed and continue to receive email notifications.
