Changing colours of 'Contempt'

  1. I wonder if anyone would be willing to advise me? I've just started building a blog/site for my partner's business using the theme 'contempt'. Thus far it seems to deliver what I need however I'd like to be able to change the colour of the side bar widgets and highlight colour to one more in-keeping with the colours of the brand. Before I splash my cash on the CSS upgrade is it easy enough for a CSS novice to make these changes?

    The blog I need help with is

  2. Did you know that you can already experiment with using CSS:

    I’m not sure if the CSS upgrade is for me. Can I try before I buy?
    Yes! Go to Appearance → Edit CSS in your dashboard. You can write or paste your own CSS stylesheet into the text box provided, and use the Preview button to see how it will look with your current theme. The CSS changes you try with the Preview function will only be visible to you, so you can test and edit to your heart’s content.

  3. Oooh! Thanks Tess. Now I just need to work out what bit I need to edit! :)

  4. You are welcome. There are a few CSS experts to visit the forum occasionally so feel free to ask specific questions…
    (unfortunately, I'm not one of them LOL.)

  5. OK and again thanks for the tip.

    So... calling CSS experts... what bit of the CSS do I need to look for to change the colour of RHS widgets. Do I trawl through the spreadsheet looking something named like, for eg: Recent Posts? I assume the text highlight colour is a universal change? If anyone can give me a bit of help I'd be forever grateful!

  6. Hurrah, I've managed to change the 'recent posts' box colour but I can't find the bit of the stylesheet I need to change to make the text here and in the footer change. Could anyone help?

  7. The blog linked to your username is not using Contempt. We need a link to that blog please, and also what do you mean by

    ...make the text here...

  8. Sorry, I have two blogs, I've now made it public:

    I want to change the text colour from blue.

    Sorry if I was being vague and thanks for your reply :))

  9. All of the blue link colors throughout the theme are here.

    a, h2 a:hover, h3 a:hover {

    Just add that to your CSS edit window and change the hex color code. It covers the inactive color for normal links, and also the "hover" color (when the mouse pointer is over the link for the post titles. If you only want to do the links in the sidebar, footer and in posts (links you put in) then add only the following.

    a {
  10. Oh hell, doesn't seem to work, this is what I have put in my edit window:

    a,h2 a:hover,h3 a:hover {

    #sidebar h2 {
    font-family:Verdana, Sans-Serif;
    padding:3px 0;

    Am I missing something? You are being so helpful, I can't thank you enough.

  11. Hah! Done it! Just had to force refresh <dimwit icon> Thanks SP. Really appreciate it.

  12. If you are using the "preview" function, sometimes it does not show up properly. Refresh the preview page, and if that does not do it, then try this.

    a,h2 a:hover,h3 a:hover {
    color:#096c34 !important;
