Changing screen background

    I’m both a blogging and CSS virgin; and you could get my CSS knowledge on the back of a postage stamp!

    I’ve bought the necessary CSS credits and would like to change my screen background – NOT the background of my template – from white to black. But on entering the template I can’t make any changes to the CSS code; it’s unalterable.

    Also, once I’m able to alter the template text, how do I set about changing the screen background?

    I’d be grateful for any guidance – for which thanks in advance.

    The blog I need help with is moonwink.wordpress.com.

    We cannot help without a link to the blog.

    Sorry. I mistakenly assumed a link was attached to my request. It’s http://moonwink.wordpress.com/

    Any help will be much appreciated.

    What “template”? In Appearance > Edit CSS you will find the CSS Stylesheet Editor and a button to save your edits. You will also find a link to the original stylesheet. You will have to copy the appropriate code snippet from there, paste it into the editor, make the necessary changes, and save it (be sure to Preview before saving). I’m unfamiliar with that them, so I will it to the CSS Masters to help you with the exact alterations you need to makee, but you could try adding this to the editor:

    body
    {
    background: #000000;
    margin: 0;
    font: 76%/1.6em verdana, tahoma, arial, sans-serif;
    color: #333;
    text-align: center;
    }

    It is the number sequence after the background: # that sets the color.

    You can find a list of color codes here

    Here’s the code again:

    body
    {
    background: #000000;
    margin: 0;
    font: 76%/1.6em verdana, tahoma, arial, sans-serif;
    color: #333;
    text-align: center;
    }

    Thanks to thesacredpath and wpvstp for trying to help. It’s appreciated.

    My problem, however, is that when I go into the CSS Stylesheet Editor it’s unalterable and won’t accept any edits of any kind.

    FYI my blog address is http://moonwink.wordpress.com/ and I’m using the Mistylook theme.

    A couple questions.

    1. When in the CSS edit page, do you see a “save” button at the bottom of the CSS text area?

    2. Do you have multiple blogs on one account? If so, is there a possibility that you had one of the other blogs active when you purchased the CSS upgrade? The CSS upgrade is per blog, not per account.

    Thanks to thesacredpath for the queries, to which the answers are:

    1. Yes, there is a ‘Save Style Sheet’ button on the CSS editor page, but not on the text page featuring the CSS code.

    2. No, http://moonwink.wordpress.com/ is my sole blog.

    Well, in that case, you’re all set. The page with the full CSS code is only for reference, so you will know what to add in the CSS Editor. Simply copy and paste the code from the code page into the editor, preview, if ok, save.

    Aaah-haaaaah! So THAT’s it. Problem now resolved. Many thanks wpvstp (and thesacredpath).
