CNAME & A mapping
I have a store with godaddy. It’s called letterartgallery.mysimplestore.com. In order to change the name to shop.letterartgallery.com I need to set up a CNAME and point the ip to a certain address. I have gone into my domain which is parked with wordpress. I added a new CNAME and called it shop.letterartgallery.com with the alias of letterartgallery.mysimplestore.com, and set up the A to point to the ip address godaddy supplied. After many days of waiting, it kicks back an 404 error code. Is it not possible to point particular CNAME to my store? Godaddy states the code is generated because it’s confused. I have recently deleted these changes and now it just goes back to the main page with wordpress. Godaddy also explained after many days and many attempts to rectify this, that in order for it to all work, I need to transfer my domain and have it parked with them, then and only then can I change my store name to my desired request. Please help, because I would prefer not to lose my webpage with wordpress.
The blog I need help with is letterartgallery.com.
I see you’ve removed the domain mapping that you had here, but let me know if you still need help with this. We will need to restore the mapping and point the name servers back to WordPress.com in order to try and get the CNAME working, though.
I deleted it at the advise of godaddy and now am pissed. They mislead me and told me I had to park my domain with them in order to get the CNAME/A to work for my store. Is there a way to reinstate my mapping, so I can keep my website with wordpress?
Advice = Advise
Can you please give me the exact instructions GoDaddy gave to you on how to create the CNAME? If I can see exactly what they require I might be better able to advise you.
Can you also confirm that you want your site, letterartgallery.wordpress.com, to appear at the domain, letterartgallery.com and then have your shop appear at shop.letterartgallery.com ? I just want to make sure I understand correctly what the end result is you want to achieve.
I’ve restored the mapping upgrade to your account for now. It won’t work until you point the name servers back to WordPress.com (this is done at domain.com where you registered the domain). Don’t change the name servers yet. I’ll first try adding the CNAME before you change those. That way if it doesn’t work we can at least try to minimize the downtime for your store.
