Comments from Followers via email reply

  1. For my past several posts, my followers have received their email update which allowed them to REPLY and have a comment posted. I was VERY happy that this feature was FINALLY included. But then I posted today and despite the fact that the email sent to followers says:

    "Respond to this post by replying above this line"

    replies are NOT getting posted. It appears they are just disappearing. I managed to get one test comment to post, but all others, from various domains, have just disappeared.

  2. What 'various domains' are you referring to? Also, which e-mail client do you use?

  3. My followers have REPLIED to the automatic update email from domains such as,, and many, many others. Only one or two have actually made it to my blog as comments.

    When the press REPLY on the wordpress update email, the address it sends replies to is:

    Shear Madness <[email redacted]>

    and this is what they see:

    From: Shear Madness [mailto:[email redacted]]
    Sent: Tuesday, November 13, 2012 2:20 PM
    To: [email redacted]
    Subject: [New post] 2012-11-12 Back to Normal

    Kathy Clark posted: "November 12, 2012 [caption id="attachment_2431" align="alignright" width="300"] Bradley and Jeff - couldn't they be brothers?[/caption] Sandy is gone and so is the Nor'easter that followed her. So things on Shear Madness are back to norm"

  4. More information: I have been able to REPLY to the post email and successfully have comments appear from two email addresses - one at Yahoo and one at Godaddy webmail. In both cases, the stuff shown in my previous update above the "RESPOND TO THIS POST" line does not appear. However, for previous updates published over the past couple weeks, REPLIES were received from all kinds of email clients and the formats are the same in all mail clients as they were for my most recent posts. I'm at a loss as to why it seemed to work fine for three posts, then with this latest one just stopped. I can't find anything that I did differently or anything that looks visually different.

  5. For comment reply by email to work, you must meet these requirements:

    1: Settings > Discussion > E-mail me whenever > Anyone posts a comment
    2: Reply must contain the quoted comment notification message or contain “!END” on its own line at the end of your reply in the email.

  6. Thanks for the reply, but that is not the problem I am experiencing. You are referencing the situation where I am replying to a comment that has been posted. The problem I am experiencing is when my FOLLOWERS re ceive and email with an update I have posted. They REPLY to that email and it is supposed to post a commet to my blog (after which your suggestion above kicks in). It is the FOLLOWERS reply which is not getting properly posted. My discussion settings are correct and it all worked fine for the past 4 posts I made, then just quit working (with just a couple exceptions) for my post made on November 12th.

    It's especially frustrating because now my FOLLOWERS are getting the message, inserted by WordPress, that they can REPLY to the email (in the past it used to be a NOREPLY email they got).

  7. We've just did a few test and it seems to work fine. Would it be possible to get a name of one of your followers that tried commenting but where the comment didn't come through? This way we can search if we have received the e-mail and where the comment went.

  8. I may have ended up with two separate reports of this problem and do not want to duplicate efforts. I sent an email this morning with reference to case #1378816 with some details of emails that did not get posted as comments. I can also re-create this problem from at least two different email addresses.

    One failed reply was sent on Nov 13th at 2:49pm ET from Kathy Clark from email address kkc@ "the domain name in question" and was never posted. It was sent to comment+rfk537-gjqeqc5-81a3c0ga at
