I am looking for a simple plugin that will allow any comments on site to be sent to registered members with subscriber role.
So far I find only very complicated plugins with tons of functions I do not need and some are so complicated that average user will never figure out how to subscribe to receiving comments.
Does anyone knows of any simple plugin that will do the job?

That’s NOT possible on any wordpress.COM hosted site.

There is no FTP access and no blogger installed plugin capability on any free hosted WordPress.com blogs.

See here for a full comparison WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

There is no upgrade you can purchase here that provides FTP access and the ability to install plugins.

Go to http://ashtechservices.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-discussion.php and scroll down and enable this setting

__ Follow Comments Show a ‘follow comments’ option in the comment form

Then scroll down and click ” save changes”.

Thank you for your response timethief. The site in subject is not hosted on wordpress.com or .org. It is hosted on Hostgator and I have full access to plugin installation or ftp. I checked in my installation there are no “follow comments” options.
Right now I am using Postmatic, but the downside is the widget that allows spammers to create users when activated. Even if I have not checked the “Anyone can register” option. The answer from Postmatic was very strange: they know about it!

    Hi Ashmtl,
    Jason from Postmatic here.

Our widget exists to allow users to subscribe to your site via email. It has a ton of antispam technology built in and the most stringent opt-in system in the industry. It’s not abused by spammers.

Regarding how we store subscribers: Yes, new subscribers are created locally using the subscriber role in WordPress. That’s what it is there for.

Using the native subscriber system is preferable for most website owners: it keeps your database clean by not creating a custom table, and also gives you ownership over your userbase (instead of it living on a remote server).

Regarding what you are looking for in a comment notification plugin: it is difficult to find because, inherently, any notification plugin is going to require consent and proactive action by the user whom is receiving all that email. Most developers wouldn’t ethically create anything less.

Postmatic does provide the functionality you are looking for but, as I mentioned in our support ticket earlier today, your users would have to opt-in to it themselves via their user profile.

Also, regarding our widget: if you don’t want users to register for your site, just don’t use the widget. It’s optional.

    Best,
    Jason

I’m closing this thread, because this topic isn’t related to WordPress.com. It deals with the self-hosted WordPress software, which is supported here: http://wordpress.org/support/
