Does anyone know how to embed a communitywalk map on to WP? They use Google maps so you would think it would be compatible here since we can embed straight from Google maps. thanks

The blog I need help with is jeep856.wordpress.com.

You can make our own Google map by signing up for a Google account and following their directions (or if ‘They use Google maps’ means someone has already made one). Then just follow the directions in the link above to embed the map.
I finally got around to putting a post on my blog yesterday, and it works fine.

And wonderful it is, tess. Looks slicker than a smelt, as they say in Maine.

    Hi ella,
They have smelt in Maine? I grew up in the UP and smelt were left on doorsteps, in season.

CommunityWalk maps are the most remarkable thing I’ve seen online in easily three years. They are amazing. They are to Google Maps what Will and Ariel Durant’s History of Civilization is to Asterix in Rome.

I’m going to try to get this to work on one of my blogs and will report back.

Tess – Oh, yeah. Smelt, Maine haz dem. I’ll take their blueberries and native shrimp and leave the smelt for you. :)

I was hoping to not have to resort to that Tess because last thing I need is another account someplace. What is Google Maps quota for photo upload, do you know?
Good luck Raincoaster…hit me up if you figure it out. I really would like to use CommunityWalk if possible. I suppose I could always just add a link within a photo in a post to CommunityWalk since Google Maps doesn’t allow a mouse over for your pin within a post.

    I didn’t realize “CommunityWalk” was a thing!
I’ll have to check into it. DO REPORT BACK. (not shouting but too lazy to make it bold!)

Sorry, I miss-read your question. The link is:
    http://www.communitywalk.com/
I’ve not heard of it before.
I know what you mean about another account somewhere: I do the website for work from home and had to set up a separate account for my own self and now have to type in passwords for each account…

Okay, I can report back. Alas, it does not work.

The embed code is differently-structured and more complex, and WP simply strips it out.

Here is the code for a CommunityWalk map without tabs, the simplest option:

    <iframe src="http://www.communitywalk.com/groups/set_commercial_domain/333457" onload="if (this.src.indexOf('http://www.communitywalk.com/view/333457') == -1) this.src='http://www.communitywalk.com/view/333457' + location.hash" width="800" height="600" frameborder="0" name="ff_cw_333457" id="ff_cw_333457" scrolling="no"></iframe><a href="http://www.communitywalk.com/vancouver_bc/canada/downtown_eastside_vancouver__labour_history_sites_streamed_live_february_7th_2009__you_can_add_comments_and_supplementary_information_to_this_map/map/333457" style='display:none'>CommunityWalk Map - Downtown Eastside Vancouver Labour History sites streamed live February 7th 2009 - you can add comments and supplementary information to this map</a><img src='http://www.communitywalk.com/images/blank.gif' onload="setTimeout(function() {document.getElementById('ff_cw_333457').onload()}, 100)" />

And here is that CommunityWalk map on its own page:
    http://www.communitywalk.com/vancouver_bc/downtown_eastside_history_sites/map/333457

Whereas here’s the code for a corresponding Google Map:

    <iframe width="425" height="350" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&amp;source=s_q&amp;hl=en&amp;geocode=&amp;q=Oppenheimer+Park+Vancouver,+BC&amp;sll=37.0625,-95.677068&amp;sspn=42.901912,93.164063&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;ll=49.291714,-123.091078&amp;spn=0.008664,0.022745&amp;z=14&amp;iwloc=A&amp;cid=16675048487677996328&amp;output=embed&amp;s=AARTsJrps7eTbiNvWVUhPUsfSN_HdApS-A"></iframe><br /><small><a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&amp;source=embed&amp;hl=en&amp;geocode=&amp;q=Oppenheimer+Park+Vancouver,+BC&amp;sll=37.0625,-95.677068&amp;sspn=42.901912,93.164063&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;ll=49.291714,-123.091078&amp;spn=0.008664,0.022745&amp;z=14&amp;iwloc=A&amp;cid=16675048487677996328" style="color:#0000FF;text-align:left">View Larger Map</a></small>

And you can see that map on its own page here:
    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Oppenheimer+Park+Vancouver,+BC&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=42.901912,93.164063&ie=UTF8&ll=49.283106,-123.094361&spn=0.008664,0.022745&z=16&iwloc=A

So, as you can see, the CW map is way more complex. I sure hope WP will allow it, and will send a message to Support asking for it.

thanks raincoaster. you got mad code skills! yea, one would think that it would be compatible on WP since its foundation is Google Maps. oh well, let me get creative. thanks again for figuring it out for me.
