Configure category layout in Appearance

  1. Hi!

I love my theme, it's perfect. With one little exception that drives me crazy: category layout. Now, obviously, I could go to self-hosted .org and hack away at the theme, or pick an entirely new theme that displayed the categories differently, but I like, and I like every other aspect of my current theme. A search of the support forums reveals a number of queries about the same sort of thing, so I guess I'm not alone in this boat. So, how about making the layout of categories an option under Appearance?

Ideally, it would be a drop down option that lets you choose to display Title, Excerpt, or Content when viewing a category on your blog. Whichever one you choose, the theme would include either the_title(), the_excerpt() or the_content() as appropriate when rendering the category template.

  4. Hi Timethief, thanks for replying. I've seen that list around the place (which is what leads me to think I'm not alone here), and as you suggest, I could change the layout of categories by changing my theme.

What I'm proposing here though is an enhancement to the way that layout is controlled, through the Dashboard options - so that everyone can have their cake and eat it too when it comes to this subject.

  5. I do understand what you are proposing. However, I do not know how this could be implemented on all of the unique 100 free themes without a huge commitment of Staff time to edit each and every underlying template but Staff will respond to you on Monday.
