Content uploaded, never shows up on profile…I hate you so bad WordPress
I completed a user profile and it isn’t here. It isn’t on another computer I used. Cleared cookies a million times. This site is a nightmare. I spent a long time on that profile, it’s nowhere. No error when I uploaded it either.
Blog url: http://comradeinpharms.wordpress.com/
The blog I need help with is comradeinpharms.wordpress.com.
On your Dashboard? Nobody can read that except you as far as I know.
I can’t read it. That’s the problem. I uploaded it, didn’t seem to have any problems, now whatever I wrote is nowhere to be found. I don’t know which About Me section it was, but that was the title of it. Every profile for me is blank. The fact that there are so many damn profiles is ridiculous to begin with.
Regardless of where you fill out the information, whether on the WordPress.com homepage under Settings>Public Profile or in your Dashboard under Users>My Profile, it should show up under your Gravatar profile and for http://en.gravatar.com/comradeinpharms there’s nothing there.
What exactly were the steps you took when you say you “uploaded it”?
Nothing is on any profile. I don’t remember the steps because I’ve wasted the past 4 hours trying to figure out the damn thing, and being a new citizen to this messed up compartmentalized Soviet-esque website inside a website inside a website, all i know is there was a box, it said “About Me”, I got some kind of confirmation that the update was successful, but even among the ten thousand ridiculous subdivisions, I can’t find it. No autosave. Nothing. I want to recover that information, but there’s no record anywhere. And I had to clear my browser history to clear the cookies.
It’s easier to motivate myself to answer your questions when you stick to technical questions. If you want to express your emotions to staff, I suggest you contact staff to do so.
I learned a long time ago, that anytime you are saving something to a website, especially if it is a long bit of stuff you have worked diligently on, to always copy it out to the clipboard before you click save. There are literally thousands of things that can happen in between the time you press save and it gets to the servers where it is going to live, and only a small portion of those thousands of things are within wordpress’s control.
I’m sorry you lost your work, but if it just disappeared from the profile (about) field on users > my profile there is nothing that can be done as far as I know to recover it. Personally I use those things for just a very short, concise statement about me and then put the bulk of any “about me” stuff on an about page on my site. One of the reasons I do that is because that profile information show up virtually nowhere. Quite truthfully I would rather that wordpress just got rid of that part of things altogether. There are only 2 or 3 themes here that will display that information at the end of posts on a single-post page, and then in the gravatar profile, but I really wonder how many people actually read gravatar profiles? I don’t know that I’ve ever looked at one. I looked at mine once just to see what it looked like, but other than that, nada.
That profile information does show up in your Gravatar, so anywhere it is displayed, that info is displayed, such as the Gravatar widget. Also if your theme supports having an Author “blurb” at the bottom of your posts, it will show up there as well. I do agree that it needs to be short and concise because no one has time to read lengthy info there. As you say, tsp, that is what the About Page is for.
Surprisingly, I actually do get some traffic from my Gravatar profile since I linked all my sites to it.
Yeah no offense, the staff was who I contacted when it got posted on here, I’m not too concerned with what you’re motivated to do. I had to do this for a particular job, spent a lot of time, wondering if a staff member can find the post, but if not I’ll just write on a more reliable site. Like a piece of paper. Just need to keep going with this whenever a staff member can help me.
I don’t think the internet is for you.
It isn’t. My job is chemistry, the study of matter, as in real things. Regardless, this page had to happen and I once again ask a staff member to assist me.
The internet isn’t pretend.
If you haven’t saved your profile elsewhere such as a writing program then you’ll have to rewrite it, it doesn’t get “stored” anywhere for staff to help you with and you haven’t explained clearly what you meant by “uploaded it”, do you mean you uploaded a file to your media library? If not, it sucks that you’ve lost it but you could have rewritten it by now instead of giving the volunteers that are trying to help attitude, next time make sure you’ve done it on something like Word first.
You say you “unploaded” this profile.
What format is it in?
Did you upload it using this method?
Does it appear in your Media Library?
Ok, new topic, for an actual staff member if there are any, I need this account gone.
You can search high and low for an actual Staff member and not find one. This sis a poeer support forum and Staff only monitor threads and appear from time to time to deal with threasd we have flagged for their attention.
It’s my opinion based on nigh onto 7 years of answering questions here that you don’t need Staff help. BTW myself and some of the other Volunteers answering questions here pre-date almost all Staff, except for one person.
You can delete a blog deleted blog URLs here are not recycled. That’s why 3 warnings are given and why a vertfication link in an email that must be clicked is sent in order to accomplish deletion. I sugesst you simply make the blogs private rather, than deleting them. You can use them as test blogs and/or as backup blogs.
Username accounts are not deleted at wordpress.com http://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/ but please note the following:
1. You can go to My Account->Edit Profile and remove all data except the account name and an email address. Create a throwaway email address and change the account email to that throwaway address. This only leaves the username behind.
2. To unsubscribe from email sent to you from WordPress.com, go here and click on “Block all subscription emails from WordPress.com”:
3. To ensure the account is locked up tightly, visit this site, generate a password of 15-20 characters, and change the account password to it:
P.S. Apologies for any typos. I’m visually challenged and my app is not working well today.
What a lawless town…aren’t there people making money from this? I’ll “resolve” the topic this way:
1. Don’t pay for this nonsense.
2. Tip your waiter 200%.
Best wishes to you regardless of what you decide to do.
People can’t be helped if they don’t want to help themselves.
And to think you managed to become a chemist with that quittist, disgraceful attitude?
The mind boggles.
