Controlling the order of header menu links

This is the weirdest thing – I can’t figure out how to order the navigation menu items across the top of my page. I’d originally thought that they were arranged alphabetically, but now I’m not so sure. I can rename them and they maintain their position, so there’s more to it than alphabetization. The one named “Recognition” had been “Awards”, which made sense appearing where it is, if following the rules of alphabetization, but I’ve renamed it and it’s stayed put.
How can you control the order of these items? If you want an order that would not be alphabetical, how could you do this?

    Thanks,
    Mark

    Two ways:
If you’re using the regular top menu of the theme, you assign order numbers to the pages. If you’re using a custom top menu, you drag the items vertically.

Thank you very much! As it so happens, the “page attributes” were not displaying and I had to find the checkbox to show them – that helped!
Thanks for taking the time to help me :-)
