Copied blog title

  1. I am very new to blogging. I posted out a blog last night and I have noticed this morning that exactly at the same time another blog ranked with me on Google.... with the exact same title as my blog. I'm in the UK and the copied blog is in the USA. On half of the blog title is my company name which is copied too. The only difference is the URL.

Is someone looking at my blogs displayed on my site and copying them? Is there anyway I can hide blogs on my site?

    Thank you.

  2. Please follow the steps in this guide to learn how to act against content theft.

If you want to temporarily hide your blog, please use privacy option so only you and logged-in members of the blog can view it.

  3. You can set your site to private.

In general they are probably pulling off of your RSS feed and that site is likely a "splogging (spam blogging) site. They scrape content off of sites and the pile ads around them in hopes someone will click on it.

You can find out who their web host is and then file a DMCA violation notice and hopefully get them shut down.

  4. Thank you for that:) I've logged into privacy but I don't have the option.....make private.

  5. See the link that @kardotim gave above.

  6. Hi. I clicked into the link above from Kardotim, but I am missing the part where you can make your blog private. I only have two options and they are both referring to search engines.

  7. I am missing the part where you can make your blog private.

  8. Site Visibility
Site Visibility Allow search engines to index this site.
Ask search engines not to index this site.

Note: Neither of these options blocks access to your site — it is up to search engines to honor your request.

The above is the only options I have when I click into "privacy"
I don' have the third option where you can make your blog private.

  9. What is the URL of the blog you're referring to?

  10. That is a self-hosted blog, which we really can't help with.

To clear up any confusion, and are two different entities. has complete support and documentation sites for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress via their Codex and Support Forums.

  11. Wait.

Are you saying the ONLY thing they have that's the same as yours is the title?

Unless you have an international trademark, you'll just have to deal with it. Titles cannot be copyrighted, and since the words of the title are not exactly esoteric it doesn't look like they're attempting to impersonate you.
