Copy content via RSS feed
I have a selfhosted wordpress site I want to keep my wordpress blog on wordpress.com but I want to duplicate the content from my selfhosted site in the wordpress blog.
How do I do that?
The blog I need help with is www.twofruitsonerobot.com.
You can copy and paste it post by post, I suppose, but why would you do that? Search engines detect and downgrade duplicated content and ruthlessly downgrade both sites.
There is no way to autopost material into a WordPress.com blog.
I wanted my blog to also be available when you search for Technology blogs on wordpress because I believe that the exposure will be so much better. I do have other people that do run some of my site content on their sites via rss feeds. Will that then count against me?
RSS feeds don’t typically count against you, but if the entire post is being shown on a different site then it very likely will. If the RSS feeds on the other site show only an excerpt with a read more that goes back to your site, then that will not count against you. Whole posts though, yes.
My idea was to do only excerpts on the wordpress hosted site. It just feel as though I lose a lot of interaction by self hosting, but the features I gain with self hosting is what I need. Is there a way to have the best of both?
Excerpts aren’t a problem. You can install the Press This thingy in your browser and use it to quickly and easily post an excerpt to your wordpress.com site if you wish.
Thank you that is what I needed to know!
However, staff have suspended blogs here which were simply copies (even excerpts) of blogs elsewhere. They really want WP.com to be for original material. You might be better advised to do this the other way around.
Also, traffic from tag posts is negligible. On my blog it’s usually run about 0.6% of visits.
