.co.uk domain mapping
-
can I use a .co.uk domain? When I was looking at upgrading, a message said “We’re sorry WordPress can’t map to .co.uk domains”, but I still had the option to upgrade. I don’t want to spend money on something that isn’t going to work, so can you confirm whether I can use a .co.uk domain for mapping? Thanks
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi, you can’t register .co.uk domains, but you should be able to map those domains to us, as long as you can change the nameservers to point to
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COMYou might need a zone record first, but we can take care of that for you.
Hope that helps!

Hello again, here’s some additional information for you on mapping your domain:
Please note that if you use your domain for email or if you already have custom DNS records, make sure to read the warning here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/#email-address-warning
If you’d like to give me the domain name, I can create the zone record for you on our end already.
And lastly, you said that you got this message:
a message said “We’re sorry WordPress can’t map to .co.uk domains”
Is that an actual quote from the Store? If so, could you take a screenshot of your page when you see that message? I’d like to investigate it some more. You canupload your screenshot to your media library.
Thanks!

Thanks for your help. Ok, basically I am using Wix HTML5, which doesn’t support blogs. So their instructions are to add a CNAME record to create a subdomain “blog.mysite.co.uk” and then point it to the IP of my wordpress blog “consula.wordpress.com” and add this to wordpress as the domain.
So, just to clarify, if I set up a subdomain and follow the Wix instructions, will I need to change the nameservers (which the Wix instructions don’t refer to). I don’t want to undermine my main website you see.
The wix instructions are: http://www.wix.com/support/main/html5/wix-editor/blogs/using-wordpress
And for CNAME: http://www.wix.com/support/main/html5/domains-email/managing-your-domain-records#weight-5
If you could please just clarify the position before I do anything as I am not a techie, so apologies for my ignorance, I just don’t want to do anything that would affect my main website.
Assuming that this can be acheived and that I can have my subdomain pointing to the blog and the nameserver thing will only relate to the subdomain, then I can pay for the wordpress upgrade with confidence.
Thanks

Also, regarding the wordpress message about not mapping to .co.uk domains, I went back into the upgrade and tried again, but the message now is that my domain is already registered, so I can’t get a screenshot.
Apologies -
I am in this same situation..using WIX HTML5 for my website. I would really like to put my Word Press BLOG in to my website. Can this be done?

If you map to a sub-domain you don’t change the name servers

Hello consula and spcohn,
I apologize for the delay in getting back to you. Do you still need my assistance with anything?

We can’t provide static IP addresses, so you won’t be able to map your domain here via a CNAME or A Record. You would need to change your name servers and map the domain following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
I find it odd that Wix won’t let you do this, as it’s common for (what I thought was) every domain registrar. Perhaps they are partnered with a registrar who could give you more controls?
If not, I’d recommend transferring your domain ownership to any other registrar (we can’t accept incoming transfers ourselves) so you can change the name servers, or staying with Wix and mapping a subdomain (like blog.example.co.uk) following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-subdomain/

I still need help — if possible. I am not understanding any of this tech speak. I have my website on Wix to which my domain names are mapped from web hub. I currently have a BLOG from TUMBLR on my site but I would really like to put in the one from Word Press and I just don’t understand what I need to do– or how to do it. My website is http://www.thepassionatepurveyor.com and my Word Press blog is thepassionatepurveyor.wordpress.com. Please help me understand…in layman’s terms. Thanks!

Oh, what you’re doing with the Tumblr blog there just won’t be possible with WordPress.com. Sorry for the confusion.
In the future, if your issue isn’t related to the thread you’re posting in, please create your own thread so we don’t just lump it in with the main issue here (which was mapping a domain, not adding a blog to a site): https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/support#postform
