Create a sidebar in my Theme

    I’m totally new to CSS and found a theme I love except for the fact that there is no sidebar, just a footer. Is there a simple way to create a sidebar, i do have custom CSS if that helps, i just havent put anything in yet.

    The blog I need help with is

    To add a sidebar you would have to have access to the source code (PHP). CSS is to style the markup, and in this case, PHP generates the markup (which the sidebar would be part of).

    Is there an easy way to do that? Or should I just give up on the theme and look for one with a side bar?

    Does the Custom Design upgrade let me edit HTML?
    No. The Custom Design upgrade allows you to edit fonts and CSS only. You can change the appearance of a theme, but not its HTML markup, PHP code, or content.

    CSS editing a free hosted blog does not allow you to edit themes or templates. Your will have to look for a theme that has a sidebars. In fact most of the 130 themes here except for a couple do have at least one sidebar.

    Well, what I tried to say in my previous post is that you cannot do that here. People who have their blog hosted at do not have access to the PHP files to alter the source code to add/remove parts in the markup (in your case, a sidebar).

    What I would suggest you is to choose a different theme, one with a sidebar, and since you have the CSS upgrade, style it to make it look similarly to the theme you like.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi there. Sorry I interjected as I didn’t know you were online. Hope you are well and happy too. :)

    Thank you, you too.

    Oh no problem, at the time I was typing my reply yours wasn’t there… today I’m typing slower than usual…

    Looks to me like the bottom sidebar could be moved up and to the right of the content. I haven’t tried it in that theme, but I suspect it is doable. Doing that though can sometimes get messy though.

    Does anybody in here know how to create a sidebar in the Chunk Theme? All of my widgets will only go to the footer.

    You could do it in the Chunk theme, but it could easily get messy. If you do it, make sure to test on all different types of pages. Here’s a start:

    #container, #header {
        width: 1114px;
    #widgets {
        width: 264px;
        position: absolute;
        top: 236px;
        right: 110px;
    #widgets .widget {
        width: 238px;

    Note this is for the Chunk theme and that I only checked that it worked for the home page. And, in the future please start a new thread for questions that are separate from the original posted question. This one probably needs a new thread if you have additional questions.
