    Hello,

I have some questions before I start to create a new .COM website.

-Currently we have a website that is with orgsites.com with our organizations name as part of the address.
-I would like to create a domain with our organizations name on WordPress.com. Will there be an conflict if both sites are active at the same time. What are the guidelines for a domain name?
-What does it cost yearly for the Premium plus domain and what are start up fees?
-The website that I would create – this would be housed, saved, backed up and supported by WordPress.com servers? I do not want to the site to reside on any of my local PCS.
-What is your uptime performance for websites that you support on your servers?
-Once I start to create the pages when will the site be active?
-When I am doing updates to the site is it unavailable to users or it is active and once I save the new updates they become active immediately?

Note: I do not want to do the blog option.

    Thank you for your assistance.

    Hi there,

-I would like to create a domain with our organizations name on WordPress.com. Will there be an conflict if both sites are active at the same time. What are the guidelines for a domain name?

Since your current site has orgsites.com as part of the address, and the address here would have to be different, this should not be a problem. I would just recommend not having two exact copies of the same site live, as search engines can penalize you for duplicate content. Also, if you might need to redirect the old site to the new one at some point, you’ll want to check with orgsites on whether they have an option like that for you.

-What does it cost yearly for the Premium plus domain and what are start up fees?

You can see our pricing here:
    https://wordpress.com/pricing

Custom domain pricing depends on what domain you use, but you can see pricing here:
    https://wordpress.com/domains

If you choose to register or transfer a domain here, the first year for most domains is included.

-The website that I would create – this would be housed, saved, backed up and supported by WordPress.com servers? I do not want to the site to reside on any of my local PCS.

The site would be on our servers. We keep backups in case of hacking or server issues so that your site will continue on seamlessly if there’s an issue. If you delete your own content, though, we don’t necessarily keep that backed up for you, as we assume you do mean to delete things. :)

-What is your uptime performance for websites that you support on your servers?

Our services are very stable. You can see our status for all services here:
    https://automatticstatus.com/

-Once I start to create the pages when will the site be active?

As soon as you choose to make it active, or within a several hours (for DNS propagation time) if you’re using a custom domain and need to change its settings when you go live.

-When I am doing updates to the site is it unavailable to users or it is active and once I save the new updates they become active immediately?

The site will remain active as you add new updates to it.

Let us know if you have more questions!

I am ready to start building the website – where do I start? Then were do I go to set up a domain name? Do I have to wait on the approval for domain name before I can start building the website?

    Thank you

    Hi there,

I am ready to start building the website – where do I start?

Great to hear! You can start by first creating the site:

    https://wordpress.com/start/about
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/create-a-blog/#adding-a-new-site-or-blog-to-an-existing-account

Here are some handy steps you can use to start building your site:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/five-step-website-setup/

Then were do I go to set up a domain name?

To register a new domain, you can follow the step by step instructions here:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/register-domain/

Are you planning on moving orgsites.com over to WordPress.com and using it as your domain? If so, you can follow these steps to transfer the domain:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/

Do I have to wait on the approval for domain name before I can start building the website?

No, you can start working on the site immediately and decide on registering the domain or transferring the domain later. In the meantime, you’ll have a .wordpress.com URL address that will be used until you approve a custom domain name for the site.

    Hope that helps. Thanks!

Thank you, there was an option for I think additional support when I was first setting up and I believe it was for $49. I wanted to find out more about it and see if I can possibly sign up for it.

    Hello

Monthly plan prices are these for like such as Premium is $8 per month. Is this for life?

Also I know have an offer to upgrade to the Business Plan at $17 per month. Is this for life?

How do I upgrade if I choose to do so? Anything other than clicking on upgrade?

After the first year do you know what the cost is for the domain name?

    Thank you

Monthly plan prices are these for like such as Premium is $8 per month. Is this for life?

These plans are all billed yearly. Each year we’d bill you one month ahead of the original purchase date — so if you bought now, we’d bill again in January. That gives us time to work out any payment errors, refunds, etc.

You’re not required to keep the plan for life, though! :) If you decided to downgrade again, you would revert to the free site. Or, you could move the whole site to your own hosting plan somewhere else. The WordPress software is free; you’d just need to pay for hosting, and take care of your own maintenance and technical needs.

How do I upgrade if I choose to do so?

To upgrade, head to https://wordpress.com/plans . You can add your domain after you choose a plan.

After the first year do you know what the cost is for the domain name?

It depends on the domain name. Right now domains ending in .com cost $18 per year, which includes WHOIS privacy. If you use a domain that’s already registered elsewhere, you can continue to pay that registrar (mapping is free with paid plans) or transfer the domain here.

I see that if I upgrade to Business that the yearly will be $204 this year. Will it always be this amount year after year? Or what will it be?
    Thank you

    #3266654

    Hi there,

The Business Plan is $299 per year. The reason you are seeing $204 if because you already own the Premium Plan which was $96. So, if you were to upgrade
to the Business Plan now while having the Premium Plan it would be less the amount of that plan which is $204. But, the following year, it would be $299.

    Hope that helps.

    Thanks!
