Created a new username... and now I can't create a blog with the new name.

  1. I changed my username from something I used years ago to the new blog I wanted to start. Along the way, I was given a few options about how to handle the new blog, and I went with:

"Change to match my new username and discard the old address” will change the address of your current blog. If your new user name is newusername, your blog’s address will be changed to"

...assuming that it made more sense to reuse the space I already had than to create a new blog.

But, unfortunately, I didn't realize that, since I deleted my old blog, now my new blog is automatically deleted before I even started it. Visiting the address gives the "Authors have deleted this blog" error message.

I know that there isn't a way to undelete a blog, but that's not really what I need to do. What I need to do is detach my new username from my old one. Any ideas?

  2. Hi geeklikealady,

While logged on to your account, are you able to see the Create Another Blog button from My Blogs? If so, have you had the opportunity to try that? Technically, you should be able to reuse the space that you already had to create a new blog.

  3. Thanks so much for your reply. I do have the option to create a blog, but it gives me the "This site already exists" error.

  4. Hi geeklikealady,

What is the new blog name that you are trying to create?

  5. Hi there,
Are your referring to this URL? is no longer available.
The authors have deleted this site.

No the deleted URL will become available again for reuse. Deleted blog URLs are not recycled, regardless of who registered and deleted them and no exceptions are made.

    You can register another blog

Then if you wish to you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade because it does not matter what the underlying address is when you are domain mapping.

  6. Yes, timethief, that's the URL I want. I know that deleted URLs can't be reused, but my whole point is that I didn't delete it. I never got to create it at all. That was the whole point of me changing to the new username—to get the new blog URL. But instead of creating the new blog site, it's as if the site was created and automatically deleted because I deleted my old blog years ago.

Eh, whatever. This isn't worth the hassle of trying to get it fixed. I'll just have to come up with another username and a new account. Bleh.

Thanks so much for your attempts at helping! I really appreciate the time. :) Have a great evening.

  7. Looks like someone had a blog with that URL and then deleted it, so you could never have had that blog. I'll flag this for staff to confirm that it doesn't somehow reach back in time and negate a non-existant blog.

  8. @geeklikealady, I have sent you an email.
