css help – oulipo theme

    I’m hoping I can get a bit of guidance on editing the CSS for my Oulipa theme blog. I’m fairly familiar with HTML and a bit of CSS but I’m stuck on a few things:

    1. I’d like to remove the dotted line under the header
    2. Remove the search box from the header and move it to sidebar
    3. Make post title smaller
    4. I’d like to make the header space larger to accommodate a larger version of my logo

    Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks. http://hellorosie.wordpress.com/

    The blog I need help with is hellorosie.wordpress.com.

    Try the following. Do note that when you increase the header size, you have to define that in the CSS. The custom header feature will always crop the image to the original size. For the search box, just put the search widget into your sidebar.

    I’ve just arbitrarily used a height of 200px for the header, and that required that I increase the top margin for the main nav and content to push them down. If you decide on a different header height, you will have to adjust the header height, and top margins for the nav and content.

    Upload your new header image to your media library, get the URL of that image, and then insert it into the background definition I have in the header section.

    #search {display: none; }
    #header: {top:5px; height:200px; background: url("URL_of_header image" no-repeat scroll, 0 0; }
    #main-nav {margin:10em 0 0; }
    #content: {margin: 250px 0 0; }

    You’re welcome.

    hm, I tried adding the search widget to my sidebar and that works fine, but I’m still unable to remove the search box from the header without going into the CSS.

    The only way to remove the search box at the top is via the CSS, It isn’t a widget, it is coded into the theme.

    Does anyone know how to change the title of the blog on the left to a logo image?

    You need the CSS upgrade and CSS editing experience.

    I’m working through this as well on Oulipo.

    @thesacredpath – Thank you for the tips , I was able to move the main nav and content down but am having trouble inserting an image. When I use the #header you suggested above in my CSS it negates the style entirely.

    Any suggestions? Thank you!

    The first thing I’ll offer (nothing to do with the header) is to go to settings > reading and decrease the number of posts to show on pages to something like 3 or 5. On my wireless internet connection your site is very slow to load since it is so image intensive.

    Secondly you need to optimize your images better. On the web, always optimize your images so that the file size of the uploaded image in around 75-100k maximum. You have to remember that a good number of people are still on slower internet connections (256k or under) and your blog takes forever to load.

    Have you uploaded the header you want to use to the media library yet? If so, can I have the URL of that image so that I can work with it?

    Thank you so much for the feedback, I really appreciate it!

    The image for my header is here: http://www.ordinarilyurbane.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/urbaneheader-200h.png

    I’ve done yours a little bit differently. Add the following to your CSS at the top. I’ve actually added this to the main body background as it is cleaner and with this theme works better.

    body {
    background:url("http://www.ordinarilyurbane.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/urbaneheader-200h.png") no-repeat scroll center 40px #ffffff !important;

    @rachlaroche, since your blog is self-hosted, you should really be over at http://wordpress.ORG/support/ which is where self-hosted blogs are supported. This forum is for those hosted here at the wordpress.COM hosting service.

    I’ll help you out with this CSS issue since it can also benefit those hosted here, but in the future, you really need to be over at the other forum.

    Wow, that’s fantastic. Thank you so much @thesacredpath, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your time and assistance.

    I found this thread through a Google search, in the future I’ll head over the wordpress.org forum.

    Again, thank you so much. Is there an email I can reach you at? I would like to at least send you a small Amazon credit as a thanks.

    That’s not necessary, but you can click on my username and use my contact form if you like, and you are most welcome.
