Current Issue: Missing Blogroll

  • Here’s a checklist to double check your settings:

While looking at Dashboard -> Bookmarks -> Either “Add Bookmark” or “Edit Bookmark”, make sure the following is done.

    – URL, Name, and Description are filled out.

    – Yes under the visible header is marked. (That’s a default but just to make sure.)

    – It’s assigned to a catgeory and that category has posts assigned to it. I’m thinking that this is what’s happening with you folks. Note that I have WP.com and WP.org within my Bookmarks but you don’t see them in my sidebar on my test blog. Why? Because they haven’t been assigned to any categories. That column is blank when you look at my Dashboard -> Bookmarks -> Manage Bookmarks page

    – Also make sure that you have assigned the Links Widgets within Dashboard -> Presentation -> Sidebar Widgets to your blog and clicked on Save Changes. (Note that you have to do this step yet again if you change your theme.)

    – Also remember that the sidebar are cached. It will sometimes take a few minutes for the updating links to appear.

If you have gone through this list, waited a few minutes to see if they appear, and they are still missing, then it might be a backend issue. Please send in a Feedback from your dashboard.

    Hope this helps,
    -drmike

  • To add: If you assign a category to a bookmark and it then goes away immediately – it doesn’t ‘stick’ then send in a feedback. It’s easily fixed from here.

  • hi – that’s what’s happening to me i think – the non-‘sticky’ bookmarks thing. i’ve checked everything else. i go into edit – assign a category (that does have posts associated with it) – the wee tick goes in but when i save changes and go back to the Manage Bookmarks page its gone.

  • kateenf – if that was the problem it’s now cured :)
If it wasn’t, send in a feedback.

  • thanks for looking at – but sorry to say still not working. i’ll send a Feedback – thanks though, fabulous service :-)

  • Okay I’ve been doing all the above as well, and I also have no blog roll. In fact, the “Categories” just won’t add to my bookmarks, so there is no chance that I can get the blogroll appearing in the sidebar if indeed it does need to be “Categorized.” Reading through teh forums, I did the suggested category deals of “links” or “blog roll” and tried adding that to my bookmarks, but no dice.

  • Leblawg, then please reread this thread and follow the instructions that Podz gives.

  • Hey, thanks a lot! I wasn’t assigning my links to a catagory. It works now! Woohoo!!!

  • I wonder if I could post a related problem here. I am trying to arrange the links on my blogroll in a particular order. Is there anyway to do that? Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • Thanks for the info drmike. I am new to WordPress and I figured that the system doesn’t work like Blogger where you just have to edit the template. Took me full 2 days before finding the problem on this forum. I hadn’t assigned any categories!

  • Is this something new? I dont recall having added categories to the bookmark for my first wordpress.com blog. i think blogroll was automatically assigned and i changed it to something else for a few links. just a q – shouldnt something like this get taken care at the theme level? a default category which need be changed only if required? thanks, Ujwala

  • No, it’s a backend issue. All the theme does is tell WP how to present the list of links. (ie alphiitical, in nor order, with children, by categories, etc.)

  • thanks drmike. that means someone is going to take care of it soon right?

  • Actually, I’m running into the same problem that kateenf ran into. I’ve tried assigning categories to links, but they don’t stick.

  • See the first two posts if any of that helps. :)

  • I send a note to feedback, and they fixed it through the backend –thanks!

  • Anyone know if anyone is still having this issue? I would like to remove the stickness of it if not. :)

  • Ack. Yes, I been struggling with this issue for several days. I just found this forum and am now going to see if any of the above suggestions fix the problem. Thanks.

  • Bingo, got it, thanks again.
