Custom CSS Classes in the Visual Editor

    I wonder if it is too much effort to add a dropdown to the visual editor that allows you to apply custom CSS classes to portions of text. I am specifically interested in applying Microformats to make my content more semantic.

    Classes like .alert, .important, .downloadbox etc. would also come handy for people with CSS upgrades.

    The idea has been proposed for WP.org as well
