Custom Theme
-
I recently upgraded my wordpress account to include my new domain which I purchased on GoDaddy. I paid 11 pounds to map it to my wordpress account and then upgraded to the premium free trial. I did all of this because I wanted the ability to use a custom template which I would purchase from Etsy. Now when I go onto the customise section of my blog I can’t see anywhere where I would be able to upload a custom theme. I looked on the help pages and it looks like I need to have a self-hosted site to upload a custom theme. How would I do this? And is it expensive? Considering I already paid money to map my new domain to wordpress.com I am frustrated that I pay have to pay even more money.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Too bad you did not say that up front. This is why.
You are confusing WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG. We cannot use any third party themes on WordPress.COM hosted blogs. The only themes we can use on WordPress.com hosted blogs are licensed and adapted to run on our multiuser software the themes are found here http://wordpress.com/themes/ and in your dashboard at > Appearance > Themes
There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs for security reasons and we cannot:
upload any third party themes,
create child themes,
create our own themes,
edit templates,
create own own layouts,
or use stylesheets from other themes.See:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/
https://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/There is no upgrade you can purchase here at WordPress.COM that changes that reality.
To install plugins or third party themes into a site then you have to hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/ and set up your own WordPress.org install. WordPress.org offers free software that you can install on a web server. You can upload and install themes and plugins, run ads, conduct ecommerce and edit the database. Learn about the differences here. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Yikes! I meant to type
For web hosting go to …WordPress.com provides a 30-day refund on all upgrades except Domain Registrations, Domain Renewals, and Guided Transfers.
The refund period for Domain Registrations and Renewals is 48 hours. https://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/#canceling-upgrades
Note: It takes from 1 – 2 weeks for the refund to be received.
Provided you are logged in under the same username account that purchased the upgrade, and you are within the allowed time frame for refunds, you can cancel and request a refund from your dashboard > Store > My Upgrades. You can also disable auto-renew there. http://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/#canceling-upgrades

So have I just paid that money to map it for nothing?
Yes but I also posted how to apply for a domain mapping refund above and I tagged this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond. To subscribe look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it.

Thank you for your help. If I get a refund on the 11pound mapping fee and open a new wordpress.org account instead will that mean I have to start from scratch with my blog? Sorry if I am asking silly questions I don’t really understand this stuff
-
Should I also have not paid to get my domain name from GoDaddy? Looking at the hosts that I would apparently need to use for WordPress.org they all say domain name included
-
When it comes to a theme yes you start from scratch on a WordPress.ORG software install but you can move ie. export and then import your content. https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-to-a-self-hosted-wordpress-site/

i would definitely like to get a refund for the mapping. If someone could help me do that that would be appreciated.

I can help you with the refund, I just want to be clear–are you planning to move your whole site to a self-hosted WordPress site? If that’s the case, I’ll remove and refund your whole Premium plan. If that’s not the plan, please let me know what you’ve decided to do, and we’ll get you all fixed up.

Thanks for confirming. I’ve removed and refunded the domain mapping upgrade and cancelled your premium trial so that you won’t be charged for that later.
Let me know if you need anything else.
