Dandelion theme for photos

  • Hi I’m interested in buying the Dandelion theme from Themeforest, but have the following doubt. In the sample version the photos are all wide (wider than a standard landscape format shot). Is that obligatory? Will I need to cut my images to that size, or would they be stretched if I uploaded them in their current standard size? I know this forum is normally for internal wordpress matters, but I can’t publish the question on themeforest without being a customer.

  • The only themes we can use on free hosted WordPress.com blogs like your blog are the themes found here http://wordpress.com/themes/

There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs for security reasons and we cannot:

    upload any third party themes,
    create child themes,
    create our own themes,
    edit templates,
    create own own layouts,
or use stylesheets from other themes.

There is no upgrade you can purchase that changes that. WordPress.org offers free software that you can install on a web server. You can create themes, upload and install themes and plugins, run ads, and edit the database, etc. If you want FTP access and to install plugins or third party themes into a site then you will have to hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/ and set up your own WordPress.org install.

In the blog you have hosted on WordPress.com (http://michaelrobertsfotografo.wordpress.com/) you can not use that theme.

  • Thanks for your response. I’d just like to check if I understod one part correctly or not. If I buy/rent the wordpress service that includes my own domain at $18 a year, can I use the themeforest themes on that?

  • No. All that changes when your purchase a domain is the URL and nothing else. As I said above quite clearly.
