Data import on existing live site

  • I wanted to clear out IP addresses from our wordpress.com hosted site. So I exported the database, cleaned out the IPs, and created a new XML import file.

I tried importing it to a new wordpress.com install for test purposes and it worked perfectly. However in order to replicate what we need to do on the live site – which already has posts and comments – I went to the next stage and cleared out the posts and comments from the test site and ran the import again.

Although there were no error messages, no data was imported this time.

So of course I do not want to go ahead and clear out our live site and run the import until I know why it didn’t work on this one.

    Any ideas.

    Help very much appreciated.

  • I wanted to keep the site anonymous. It’s not really relavent to my question.

  • The site is very relevant from what you have written in your original Post it sounds like you are in the wrong forum – we need all the URL’s to give you accurate advice – read the link below if you did not bother to read it before

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

  • I did bother. The site is hosted on wordpress.com as I said.

I do have other wordpress sites hosted on my own servers, and I have absolutely no problem importing and exporting from those. but this one is a paid site on wordpress.COM

    What am I missing?

  • If the support was a private ticket then fair enough, but why should I be compelled to specify the site in a public forum? Surely it is sufficient to provide the salient information that it is hosted on wordpress.com. No?

  • If I had a dollar for every “WordPress.COM” hosted site that was not really hosted here that ask for help here I would be very rich – Like I said originally – your language in the first post sounds like are asking about a site that is not here

I have flagged this for the staff to help – they can email you when they work through their backlog and you can give them the relevant URL’s

  • Ok. I understand. But I can assure you I am being truthful.

In fact before I understood the difference I posted at .org forum, and they sent me over here.
