Hi, one of the posts that should have been pushed back into archives is showing up very oddly at the bottom of the home page for some reason…any idea what’s going on? The post is called “My Secret Identity” and you can see it on the left side if you scroll down… anyone know why it’s there? http://www.workstew.com Thanks!

The blog I need help with is workstew.com.

Is the post in question marked as a “sticky” post? If so you can edit and remove the “stick” designation in the Publish module.

If not then due to copying and pasting or it can also be a result of importing text containing invalid HTML.

Typically this is caused by an open HTML tag in one of your posts or in a text widget. You must locate it and close it.

Go to Settings > Writing and select “ ___ WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” and then scroll down and click “Save Changes.”

Now, starting with your latest post, open it in the editor, make one minor change such as adding a space and then deleting it, and then click “Update Post.” Check your blog and see if it is back to normal.

If it’s not, then look for an open HTML tag and close it. Check your blog again and see if it is back to normal. If it’s still “messed up” then open the next post and do the same thing post by post until it goes back to normal.

If you have been copying and pasting text from elsewhere without using either icon 5 or icon 6 in Row 2 of the visual editor, please see here so you know how to do this correctly in the future. http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#pasting-text

That post is showing at the bottom because you’ve marked both “Latest Interview” and “Welcome” as stickies. The theme cannot accommodate more than one sticky.

Hi thanks for the help. I’ve un-stuck the second sticky post, changed the Settings as you (timethief…thanks!) suggested, and updated the latest postings. I even deleted one entirely. But a fourth post continues to show up at the bottom of the page. Any other ideas? Thanks SO much for the help.

Now that’s really weird… I tried the situation in my blog, and things get back to normal if I unstick the earlier of the two stickies but not if (like you) I unstick the more recent one. You should report this to staff:

In the meantime the only thing I can suggest is that you turn your welcome post into a static page.

Thanks, timethief. It’s good to know how to create a static home page, but unfortunately what I want is for part of my home page to be static (the welcome message) and for part of it to change, as new essays and interviews are posted. The issue seemed to be caused, as panaghiotisadam suggested, by the fact that that the Welcome (and for a while a second) post was ‘sticky.’ For now, just as a quick fix, I re-posted my Welcome post, apologized to my email subscribers for the fact that they were sent old content, and at least the weird thing at the bottom is now gone. Not sure what will happen though when I need to make that Welcome post sticky again…

A glitch :) It should be fine now. Let me know if you still see any issues, and thanks again.

Perfect! Thank you, matiasventura! It seems that I can once again make a post sticky with impunity. : ) In fact, I made two sticky…that won’t cause another problem, will it? Thanks again!

It shouldn’t cause any problems :)
