difference between blog pic/icon and gravatar :/
I thought I had figured out the gravatar thing (it’s uploaded and working – at least sometimes it seems) but when I post comments randomly either my gravatar or the wordpress quilt design shows next to my comments.
To make matters more confusing, I just noticed that in General Settings there is a Blog Picture/Icon upload option. How is this different than a gravatar?
Thanks for explaining to this newbie :)
The blog I need help with is conservegan.wordpress.com.
The bloc pic (blavatar) is the little icon next to your web address in the address bar/tab of a browser (where the wordpress “w” symbol is).
The gravatar is tied to your identity and will show up with comments that you make on other blogs that support gravatars.
thanks, tsp – re the gravatar, though, why was it showing next to some comments and not in others (what was showing was the wordpress quilt) – it was very random.
also, I thought my nickname was supposed to show up here and elsewhere. I notice that my username is what shows up as my posting name. Is that right?
It is probably a browser caching issue, either that or your gravatar change had not yet made it all the way through the wordpress datacenters and servers. Some browsers, IE in particular, hang onto cached pages tenaciously and will virtually never update unless they are forced to.
Log out of wordpress, clear your browser cache and cookies, restart your browser and then take another look.
You’re main username, the one you set when you signed up for your blog here, will always show here in the forums.
If you made comments and such in other blogs – or even your own – before changing your nickname, those will remain with the old username. Any nickname change will only effect posts or comments from that change onward. Nickname changes are not retroactive.
thanks for the explanations and help :)
