Disabling Comments and Likes

I’m working on two test websites for the same person. I have not ticked ‘Allow comments’ on either of the websites, but they kept appearing in the gallery carousel.

In Twenty Twelve the Comment block disappeared when I ticked ‘Allow Trackbacks and Pings’, but left the ‘Allow comments’ tick box empty. I can’t see why that should be.

The other them I’m trying is Triton Lite. In that theme I can’t get rid of the comment box in the gallery carousel.

The other pages are ok – no comments and no likes.

Does anybody know what I should do to get rid of comments and likes in the gallery carousel?

Blogs are built for discussion so all WordPress blogs by default have all comments open. You can close them.

This page > Settings > Discussion
Discussion settings is where you set up defaults for comments.

We can also override the default settings and enable or disable future comments on any individual post or page.

Note 1: By default, new blogs on WordPress.com will have the Discussion hidden. You can reveal it by clicking on Screen Options http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ on the top right corner of your Admin page, and checking the box that says Discussion so the module is included. http://en.support.wordpress.com/modules/#list-of-modules

Thank you for your help, Timethief but I’m still mystified. I could do nothing with Triton Lite, and on Twenty Twelve one carousel does not display Likes, but the other does – and the edit pages and Dashboard pages are ticked and unticked in the same way.

I’m going to relax now and have another look at this tomorrow.

Thanks again for all the links.
