Disappearing categories and tags on posts

When editing my posts from my dashboard, if I want to edit the categories or tags, the previous categories and tags already assigned to the post disappear, so I re do have to them all. when I update, the categories and tags are edited, but if I go back to edit them, they are all gone again.

The blog I need help with is collectedpinformation.wordpress.com.

That’s very strange. Are you creating posts here > Dashboard > Posts > Add New? http://collectedpinformation.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php

    Hi there!

Can you please answer the questions that @timethief has asked? That would be a great help.

Also, can you can you please try clearing out your cache and cookies using the guide below?

Let me know if this helps. It sounds like it could be caching issue. Also, can you check your Posts > Categories page and see if your categories are there?

I’m using a Kindle Fire to write with the WordPress for Android version 2.9.1.
When I write a post through the app, there is a button for Post Settings where I can add tags and categories. When I publish the post, I can see the tags and categories on the post and it is tied to those filters, but when I want to tweak a category or tag after it’s published, edit the post and go back to Post Settings, the tags and categories are blank.
It’s a bit janky an the admin functions, but I have figured out how to get to the admin page (settings > {blogname} > View admin which launches me to the dashboard. From this, I have tried to edit the tags and categories (much easier), and I have used the functions to delete categories I decided I don’t want to use. I save the master category list edits, and update the posts with the tags and categories I want, but when I go back to the app, the edits are gone – the master category list still contains the categories I deleted through the admin dashboard and the post edits I made for category and tags are not saved either, so it seems the admin dashboard isn’t saving my changes either.

    Hi there.

Thanks for the info! So, I’ve been looking into your account and it’s really hard to see what’s going on after the fact.

As a test can you create a tag and category called Test. Then, edit it to Test1 from your Kindle Fire and let me know what happens?

    Thank you!

Thanks. I’m on the bus now. I’ll be able to test in about 2 hours

I created 6 test posts. I got a little sloppy o. naming the variables.
Hopefuy ypu can see the chages o. the back end.

I don’t understand what’s going on. I just see these categories:

    So is everything okay now?

No, the same thing is happening exactly as it was on my first report. When I update a post, the tags dissappear everytime. If I update a post and change the category, sometimes the new category displays on the post, sometimes the category is empty
I used those posts to describe the experiments and their results in different circumstances.

I cannot delete categories from the admin page either.

You mentioned that you were editing Categories within the post? Can you tell me more about that?

Once you are in the post, you should only be able to choose the categories you want or add a new category – not edit them. As for tags, you can add/remove tags, but not edit them from within the post. This is what I see in the Post Editor:

    Screen Shot

Are you editing them in Posts > Categories and Posts > Tags?

Example 1: When I have published a post and decide to change or add a category, I go to the settings screen and both the category and tag fields are blank.
At that point, if I save the changes to the post, the post as it appears on the blog no longer has categories or tags.

Example 2:When I have published a post and decide to change or add a category, I go to the settings screen and both the category and tag fields are blank.
I can go to the screen that allows me to choose and add categories. From there, I can re-check all of the categories for that post, save these edits and re-publish. On the blog post, the categories I just selcted show on the posting.
Basically, everytime I edit a post I’ve already published, if I go to the settings screen for any reason, the tags field will be blank and the categories field will be blank. If I save without re-selecting categories or re-entering tags, the post no longer has categories or tags.

    Hi there,

Would it be possible to record a screencasting of this? I’m unable to reproduce your issue. It would really help to take a further look at this with seeing exactly what’s going on.

Screenflow is really great for screencasts.
