I have 7 categories and on the dashboard it says “pending”. On my home page it doesn’t show the categories. How do I correct this, please?

The blog I need help with is bettynearing.wordpress.com.

Until there is a published post in any Category there is no data for the Categories widget or the dynamic Categories pages to display.

I finally eliminated the “pending” notation. I have pages that have been listed under various categories as “Novels” – with two sub categories.

    read this please > http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/

Only Posts can have Categories and/or Pages assigned to them. Pages cannot have Categories or Tags assigned to them because they are for static content only and site outside the blog structure. Any static page that you create will never automatically update with content. Only dynamic Categories an/or Tags pages which are created by the software when we publish Posts, not Pages will automatically update.

This is the URL for a statics Page ie. not a category page
    http://bettynearing.wordpress.com/hang-the-witch/

This is the URL for a Category page

Look at the two URLs closely to see the difference.

You do not have any category pages in your cusom menu. You have Pages that will not automatically update with new content when you publish. You need to delete the Pages, create Categories for those labels on them (HANG THE WITCH, THE ISLAND HOUSE), and assign the Categories to your posts.

There is only one page that we can post to in any blog and we cannot prevent any posts we publish from appearing on that one page. By default it’s the front page of the blog that all posts appear on. We organize posts by assigning Categories to them and when we publish the software automatically displays the posts on dynamic Categories pages. We crate a custom menu and add the Categories pages to it as menu items.

    Here’s a link to a custom menu walk-through > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/08/11/wordpress-com-custom-menu-walk-through/

There are many common errors, misunderstanding and misconceptions when creating custom menus and you can read about them here > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/12/19/custom-menus/

I am new and trying to set up my categories on my Home page which I’ve set to be my ABOUT. I have set seven categories but am trying to set more and cant figure out how to add them to the menu. I write them into the search field for categories and click “add to menu” and then “save menu” as I did before but nothing happens. When I go back to the categories enter field and hit “view all” only the existing categories show up and none of the ones I thought I just saved to the menu. Is there a limit to number of categories and am doing it correctly?
