DNS and domain mapping questions

  1. advocateforthedevil

So last year I upgraded one of my blogs by registering a domain name ( with wordpress and mapping it to my existing blog. Tomorrow it will expire, and I had wanted to renew my registration of the domain name with wordpress, but I don't want to have the domain map to my blog. I have created a new blog and I'd like the domain to redirect there.

So far I am confused about two issues.

    1) Renewing the domain name registration with wordpress without also renewing the mapping to the existing blog.

    2) Re-directing the domain name to a new site.
I figured this would be a simple matter of editing the DNS, but my host doesn't supply it in the format wordpress asks for, nor do I really understand what wordpress is asking for (the main one is what "MX #" means, and what number that's supposed to be).

Any help would be especially appreciated. Thanks!

The blog I need help with is

  2. 1) You must renew your domain registration and mapping at the same time. If you don't need mapping anymore, you may want to consider transferring to another domain registrar so you don't have to keep paying for both.

However, if you renew with us you can keep redirecting your domain to your new site.

    2) Maybe you mean you want to remap your domain to another host (hosting service)? In that case, you need to find out the values of name servers and update them.

If you are transferring to another registrar or "redirecting" (the second link in answer #1), you don't need to do this.
