DNS & Domain Mapping Problem
-
Hi,
I purchased a new domain name (traciannblogs.co.uk) from DreamHost and have mapped it to WordPress as my primary domain with the aim of getting rid of tiptastic-tas.co.uk (my previous blog name) once my new one is set up.
In my new DNS records for traciannblogs.co.uk I have NS, CNAME but I am missing an A record. I had all three on my previous domain name (tiptastic-tas.co.uk). I know I have to put a number in when adding an A record but I cannot for the life of me remember where this number comes from!
Help! My blog is currently ‘dead’. I know I am missing something really simple but my searches have not helped at all.

Hi,
I’m just updating this…I think I’m also there. My blog is no longer ‘dead’ but when I search for traciannblogs.co.uk nothing comes up…I am assuming this just hasn’t gone fully live yet. I will wait 72 hours then see what happens…
Kind regards,
Traci-Ann

but when I search for traciannblogs.co.uk nothing comes up.
Keep in mind that it takes 4 to 7 weeks for search engines to index a new site – and that is if there is content worth indexing
If you have an existing site – you will see a bit of a drop for a few weeks with search engine traffic as they get used to a new URL for your site – NOTE: all the old links will still work –

None of the links would work at all…it has literally been driving me mad for 8 hours or so! I have now set the WordPress URL as the primary domain I am using. I’ve got 12 months of content so not a new blog at all. Driving me mad. I’ll wait 72 hours then see if the mapped link works then take it from there.
Thanks for your tips though.
