Do I need to upgrade for a new theme

  1. I am new so please forgive me if I do this wrong. I have found a them I would like to use on a web page not one of the WP themes that is on my manage themes section. My question is do I need to upgrade to the $14 a month option in order to use a free theme off of another web page. I do not know CSS but I don't want any of the themes available to me. I have been trying to figure this out for a few days and it is wearing me out.

I tried to use filezilla in order to upload the theme I want but I am not smart enough to do it :(

Do you have any suggestions for me to get a theme uploaded?

The blog I need help with is

  2. We answered you in the other thread you started on the same subject: .

You cannot add themes here at all, not even with an upgrade. See the links I gave you in the other thread.

  3. Thanks but if I cant add themes even with an upgrade then...I guess it just does not make any since to me cause I see so many great themes so there must be a way to use them. I will read up some more on the links you gave me, thank you

  4. There are two types of wordpress blogs. Those hosted here on the wordpress.COM free hosting service, and the self-hosted version that you have to pay to host on third-party hosting services. At the wordpress.COM free hosting service you cannot use themes found on the internet. Themes here have to be sanitized and modified before they can be used here. With a self-hosted wordpress blog you can use any theme you want.

If you want the ability to have themes you find on the internet, you will have to register a domain name, hire a web host, download the software from wordpress.ORG and upload, install and configure it on the web host, and create the MySQL database. Then you would be able to do anything you want. Figure on about $10 to $40 per month combined cost (hosting and registration fees). Actual costs will depend on bandwidth and storage requirements.

With a self-hosted blog, you have to do all troubleshooting, all upgrades, all backups. If something goes wrong, you have to fix it.

See the sticky thread at the top of the main forum page about the differences between wordpress.COM and wordpress.ORG.

  5. Thanks I am looking at the different hosts now trying to make a choice. Thanks for the help I was confused at first but now its all making since.

  6. You're welcome.
