Does my Blogroll have to Appear on the opening page of my blog?

  1. I didn't even know I created a Blogroll (or did WordPress do this?) but I don't like it on my site where a visitor can click on to things which shouldn't be there. Can I remove it? If I find out how to do this and go ahead and remove it, will I do any damage to the fragile site I have up? It's not complete yet, a long way from it, as I can't seem to get the buttons up for the different countries I write about. Deep sigh, will continue trying.

The blog I need help with is

  2. I had the same problem and I solved it. Let's see if I can remember what I did. Go to your Dashboard and click on Links. You will see all the links in the blogroll listed. Click the little box next to the offending link from your blogroll, then under "visible" you can unclick "yes" and it turns to "no" After I unclicked "yes" which turned to "no" on each one, the whole nasty blogroll was GONE!!!!

  3. I think the blog roll is one of those default widgets. You can control the presence and absence of those widgets from dashboard> appearance > widgets.

This support document tells how to add and remove widgets. And how to remove all by adding a blank widget.

  4. @houstonweaver. Actually I tried that when I was upset about my own blogroll--someone else had mentioned the widget thing. It did nothing for me whatsoever. In my experience, "Blogroll" is a list of links all of which appear in the "Links" link on the Dashboard. Once you click on that it is pretty self explanatory. All the Blogroll links appear in a row ready for deleting or being made invisible, after which no trace of "Blogroll" appears on your page.

  5. Thank you very much for the helpful advice which I've followed, and as you said, I've got rid of the Blogroll. That is such a relieve, and one more problem disposed of. Now I just have to find my way between the Tags and the Categories - sometimes what I do seems to work, other times it doesn't. I'm sure the steep learning curve is good for me!

  6. I'm so glad I could help. I too am beleaguered with Tags and Categories. Also I can't figure out how to make "comments" that I get appear on the blog itself. They seem to only appear privately. I'm eager to see your blog once it becomes active. Why don't you check out my beginning blog, The Analyst Dreams @ I'd love to hear your thoughts. And I am very eager to see yours. Please do let me know when you publish it.
