    I’m going to buy a ‘personal’ plan. Can I attach a domain bought a side or can I buy a domain with wordpress on this plan? The plan description is not clear.

    Yes, you can map an existing domain.

    Add a plan for your site here: http://store.wordpress.com/plans

    WordPress.com does not accept incoming domain transfers. You can, however, map an existing domain, that you purchased elsewhere.

    In order to remove the .wordpress.com URL and replace that with a domain URL you have to purchase an upgrade. See https://wordpress.com/pricing/

    What domain mapping does is providing a seamless redirect to the very same content under the new domain URL when a person clicks the old URL to the original content.

    Note that each upgrade bundle applies to a single blog only and is for a single year only when it is due to be renewed.

    From the FAQ that appears on wordpress.com/plans:

    Do you sell domains?

    Yes! The personal, premium, and business plans include a free custom domain. That includes new domains purchased through WordPress.com or your own existing domain that you can map to your WordPress.com site.

    That’s the very first question on the FAQ.

    I will follow up on why the FAQ is not on wordpress.com/pricing but that was likely a choice made by the designers.
