Domain Already Exists
-
I’m planning to upgrade my blog, a wordpress.com site, to my own domain, so that it’s .com.
The problem is, the URL I want (fantageville.com) is already taken. BUT, if you go to that URL, you can see that it’s not actually a website, it’s one of those “buy this Domain now” sort of page.
A couple of questions:
1. Who makes those sites and sells them? It’s really annoying that they took that URL already and aren’t allowing anyone to use it without paying them directly.
2. If hypothetically I could contact that person, is there any way they can delete that site permanently and free up the URL so I can use it instead through WordPress, and not through them?
3. If I actually do get a .com site through WordPress, am I allowed to use Google Adsense? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

1. That page is not blog site at all. Note it has a link at the bottom of it you can click to purchase the domain from the domain registrar that owns it.
2. Irrelevant see 1.
3. No. The only advertising program here is WordAds http://wordads.co/ and it lets WordPress.com bloggers with moderate to high traffic and appropriate content blogs on their own domains turn on ads and earn money from their blogs.Be aware that no blogger initiated advertising of any kind or sponsored content or paid content is allowed on free hosted WordPress.com blogs. In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from. If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchase a domain name by purchasing an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog.
If you do not own a domain name then see here http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
If you already own a domain name see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades is where you do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

Ok, I will look through those links, thanks timethief.
I just thought of using .org instead of .com, is there any difference between the two in terms of registration?
