Domain error:An active access token must be used create a new Site for the User.

  • Hi, I am trying to create a new site but keep encountering the error: ‘An active access token must be used create a new Site for the User.’

I tried both solutions mentionned in the previous threads:

    1:
Clear cache – restart browser – wordpress.com – login – my site – create a site – What is you site about? Education and organizations – Education and organizations – home page for my site – choose a theme : Sela. Search for domain name : Caetoastmasters.wordpress.com : available – select – select a plan – Free – redirects to : Step for 4 on 5 https://wordpress.com/start/domains with error « An active access token must be used create a new Site for the User.”

    2. Also tried :
Clear cache – restart browser – wordpress.com/login – login – try to access caetoastmasters.wordpress.com : redirects on page https://en.wordpress.com/typo/?subdomain=caetoastmasters « caetoastmasters.wordpress.com doesn’t exist. Do you want to register caetoastmasters.wordpress.com? ». What is you site about? Education and organizations – Education and organizations –home page for my site – choose a theme : Sela. Serach for domain name : Caetoastmasters.wordpress.com : available – select – select a plan – Free – redirects to : Step for 4 on 5 https://wordpress.com/start/domains with error « An active access token must be used create a new Site for the User.”

modstaff, could you please give a hand going through that domain name creation?

    Thanks

  • Hi there,

What browser are you using? Do you have cookies enabled in your browser? Blocking cookies in the browser settings or via a browser extension can sometimes cause this error.

Can you also please try using a different browser and see if that helps?

  • Hi,
I am using Chrome and cookies are allowed. On Internet Explorer I can’t go through the “Choose a plan” page, nothing happens when I click on the Free plan.
I succeded creating the page through my Iphone on Safari but now I am not able to edit it though Chrome or Internet Explorer, only Safari works.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Can you please tell me what versions of Chrome and IE you have? You can find that by visiting this page in each browser:

    https://www.whatismybrowser.com/

  • Chrome 47 and Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 7.
    Thanks!

  • The most recent version of Chrome is 52, so the problem can be that you’re using an outdated version. Can you please update Chrome to the newest version? Also clear browser cache and cookies in both browsers.

I’m using the latest Chrome on Win 7 and can edit my sites without any problems, so it should work. If it doesn’t, please check if using an incognito window in Chrome makes a difference. If it does, it means there’s probably a browser extension in Chrome that’s blocking JavaScript. The usual culprits are ad-blockers and antivirus extensions. In some cases the antivirus on your PC can also be blocking JavaScript, in which case you’ll need to add an exception for WordPress.com in the antivirus settings.

  • I am having this problem too on chrome 53, any help?

  • @jasonturo

Can you please try these steps:

    1. Clear your browser cache and cookies

    2. Make sure you have third party cookies enabled

    3. Log back into WordPress.com and try to create a site again.
