Domain Mapped but site not working

  1. Hello, I purchased a domain name from Go Daddy and followed the mapping process. When I try to visit my new site address the page just stalls and nothing happens. It has been nearly 48 hours and I have checked both WordPress and Go Daddy set-up and everything is ok. I'm aware it says on the site it can take up to 72 hours for changes to occur. Is there any way to speed this process up?

The blog I need help with is

  2. What IS the new domain? And did you buy the domain mapping upgrade here?

  3. domain is - I purchased the domain on Go Daddy and domain mapping upgrade on here.

Aside from that not working, I was also charged twice and can't seem to find contact details to ask for a refund.

  4. Is there any way to speed this process up?

    Domain helper shows

Primary Blog is Set is set as the primary domain for and will appear in the address bar when you visit the site.

So it looks like you have a spelling error

I will flag this for the staff to help you

The charges thing was a bug of some sort for a few hours and extra charge should have been started in the refund process - the staff can also check that for you

  5. I initially created wantokweekly then didn't like what i had done so started wantokweekly2 - so wheni log into my account there are two sites but it's the wantokweekly2 that i mapped to the address Does that make sense? So can you see an error that I might be able to fix or is it just that I need to wait for 72 hours?

  6. Just wait - not anything you can do to speed things up - sometimes a router somewhere will hold onto the old records for what seems like forever

so you intended to map to wantokweekly2 is correct?

That just leave the staff to double check the charges

  7. Ok but will it definitely be working by the 72 hour period? I have been promising the site to people by today!

Yes - I intended to map to wantokweekly2

  8. Aside from that not working, I was also charged twice and can't seem to find contact details to ask for a refund.

On Tuesday we did have some technical difficulties with our upgrades systems. For a a short time, anyone who tried to purchase or renew products with us were charged but their items did not end up in their account or get renewed.

We fixed the issue on our end that same day, added the upgrade to your account and made sure anyone charged more than once got refunds. I checked: you were issued a refund for the second charge. It can take up to a week before this appears on your statement, depending on your bank or credit card company, but it's usually less time than that.

We sincerely apologize for the confusion and inconvenience.

Ok but will it definitely be working by the 72 hour period? I have been promising the site to people by today!

Everything looks to me like it's set up fine now and we do just have to wait for the domain name change to propagate around the world. I don't see any reason why it won't be working after 72 hours (or hopefully sooner).

When did you update the DNS records at GoDaddy? It appears this was done on March 8th. Be aware that the 72 hours starts after that.

Please let us know if you have any more questions.

  9. Thanks for your response. It's been well over 72 hours now and my site is still not working. Could you please advise what I should do? The error message I get is "Safari can't find the server".

My credit card was also charged twice and I can't see contact details anywhere on this website to ask for it to be refunded.

  10. You only need to ask about the mapping once - duplicate threads disturb the very fabric of space and time

I have flagged this for the staff to review your settings - Domain Helper and whois show that you have set things correctly

  11. Sorry I am new to this. I wasn't sure where to find my original post so posted a new one but then later found this.

Will the staff also be able to process the refund for the duplicate charge?

Both issues had apparently been flagged to staff on the 9th of May but I have not received any response. Thank you

  12. @kevkoeh responded to you above on both items you ask about - he is staff

Your site would no load for me - the staff can review your account and make sure you have things set correctly and no hidden stuff - Did you edit any DNS settings or do anything at Godaddy other than to change the name servers?

  13. is not reporting any name servers, so nothing is telling it to point here:

Per the guide at they need to be set to:

If you believe they have been set correctly, please contact your domain registrar.

  14. @macmanx - interesting on your link - I did a whois & Domain Helper and they both show the name servers set correct.

Could they be doing some sort of strange config at their Registrar?

  15. Yes, normally something is fouled up at the registrar when that happens.

The "whois" command only lists the record itself for the domain, and it's oddly possible to record nameservers without setting nameservers. The "dig ns" command is what reports the set nameservers, which is what runs.

  16. Thanks @macmanx for the lesson - I will double check whatsmydns on the confusing ones

  17. You're welcome!

  18. Thanks for the feedback. I phoned Go Daddy and they told me that everything is 100% fine and correctly set-up from their end.

Could you please give me advice on what to do next? Or perhaps advise me of a specific question I could ask them?

  19. Hi again - I've just phoned Go Daddy again and they told me to advise the following:
    Nameservers are set correctly to:

    DNS Manager: Not hosted here
    So now with WordPress

  20. is still not reporting name servers.

At you see a red 'x' returned from every ISP in their checklist.

Instead of a red 'x', you should see the name servers, like

I recommend that you ask to speak to someone higher up there. We can't do anything until the domain is properly directed to us.

  21. Hi, I've just spent 30 minutes on the phone with Go Daddy again. They have assured me there is NOTHING that can be done their end as everything is set-up correctly. I've seen this for myself when I log into my account. Name servers are correct and DNS Manager says "not hosted here". Go Daddy told me that WordPress must be the ones to sort the issue.

Could someone PLEASE look further into this? My website was due to go live a week ago and I am getting tired of going back and forth between WordPress and Go daddy. I chose to use wordpress because you publicise that it's easy to use!

  22. Is there a phone number to speak with someone from WordPress? I have wasted nearly a week of my time with this matter and it is still not resolved.

  23. GoDaddy must have changed something after you contacted them last. appears to be working properly. Here's what I see:

When a domain is registered or altered, there is a process called propagation, where information about the domain name is passed to internet service providers all over the world. This process can take up to 72 hours (though usually much less). During that time, you may also receive a warning message in your browser about "redirect errors". Unfortunately, we have no control over this as it all depends on how often your internet service provider updates their records. Please rest assured that everything is proceeding normally with your domain.

You can continue to update your site while your custom domain propagates, by going directly to your Dashboard, here:

If you still have trouble viewing the site after 72 hours has passed, please try clearing your browser's cache and cookies:

If that doesn't work, try clearing your local DNS cache:

Please let me know if you have any more questions.
