    Hello,

Some months ago I purchased my own domain name with a server outside WordPress, but I now want to use that domain name with a new WP blog I have just set up.

I just paid the $13 for “domain mapping”, but stupidly I did that before being sure whether I should have or not.

    Can anyone offer any advice?

The blog I need help with is thespicebazaar.wordpress.com.

The domain mapping has been purchased correctly.

Though, it looks like your domain is not pointing to WordPress.com name servers yet. Please go to your domain registrar’s site and log into the control panel. You will need to update the name servers as below:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

For more information, please visit the help documentation provided by the registrar and our support page:

Hi thanks for that, appreciate it.

So I went to my registrar’s site and updated the name servers.

I have now updated the primary domain name in the store tab of my blog, but it still seems the domain name is directing me to my old site!

    Am I doing something wrong?!

It might take 24-48 hours before the nameservers are fully propagated. Please try again soon.

    Hi there,

Still seems I’m having problems with my new WordPress site.

Some months ago I purchased my own domain name with a server outside WordPress, but I now want to use that domain name with a new WP blog I have just set up.

I just paid the $13 for “domain mapping”, and a couple of days ago I went to my domain name registrar’s site to update the name servers (NS1.WORDPRESS.COM, NS2.WORDPRESS.COM, NS3.WORDPRESS.COM)

However it still seems that when I type in my domain name (alastairbeach.com) I am directed to my old site.

On one of the tabs of this site, after you click it you are directed to my new WP blog with a “Not Found” message – so something seems to have changed…however the main page and the rest of the tabs on the old blog still remain.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

I took a look and everything is working properly. Your domain redirects to WordPress.com.

Can you please try clearing out your cache?

Ah yes it’s working – that’s great, thanks.

Just a couple of other questions…my current domain name is http://wwwdotalastairbeachdotcom1.wordpress.com/

Is it possible to change it to simply alastairbeach.com?

Also, what will happen when I close my account with my old server? Will I need to register my domain name again with WP or is it covered by the $13 mapping fee?

The primary domain has now been updated to alastairbeach.com .

If you decide to keep your site hosted at WordPress.com, you don’t need your old hosting anymore. As we don’t take incoming domain transfers, you do need to keep the domain at your previous registrar (Tucows.com).

    Thanks.

Sorry for all these questions – this will be my last one:

I’m assuming I will still be paying a yearly fee for my domain name at my previous registrar.

Do I still need to be paying my $13 a year mapping fee if my site is now being hosted with WP?

Not 100% clear on how this works (as you can probably tell)

That’s correct. Your domain fee has to be paid at your previous registrar, and your domain mapping fee at WordPress.com.

Your domain mapping upgrade has already been paid for this year and won’t expire until 2013-11-05.

Feel free to contact us if you have any other questions.
