Domain Renewal

  1. I haven't used my website in 8-9 months. It was a trial me and a friend set up and we decided it wasn't going to work. I changed the domain access from a .com to a and put the blog on private so noone could see it. I thought this would be the end but today I have found that I have had £11.55 taken for my domain name.

    I never asked for this renewal nor did I want it. Can I get my money back and how can I cancel it for the future!? The domain site I registered with say I no longer exist.

  2. I have now changed the direct debit so it won't' come out again automatically and understand I am unlikely to get a refund - annoying policy but hey ho.
    However I would really just like to shut down this account completely - including all blogs and websites associated with this. Can someone help me do this / do it for me??

  3. I have flagged this for the staff to see if they will give you a refund.

    You can delete all your blogs from your Dashboard, but once the domain name is deleted it can't be used again - we recommend that you do as you had done - set a blog to "Private" then record your username and log-in info - - all the time we have people come into the forum that have changed their mind 6 months or a year later and want their blog name back.

    Accounts are forever here - that prevents anyone from taking your ID here and impersonating you - you can clear all the info out of an account and use a junk throwaway email address and a real long password - @timethief has a nice set of instructions - with a bit of luck with the sun comes up she will see this thread and leave the instructions

  5. Hi there - your domain had been set to auto-renew, and we do send out at least six reminders before the renewal goes through, as a heads-up. Is it possible those were being sent to spam and weren't getting through to you?

    Canceling a domain after 2 days of purchase means you completely give up ownership of the domain. There is no guarantee the domain will become available to re-register after cancellation.

    You are welcome to keep your domain with us and update the nameservers to point to another hosting provider by following this guide:

    After 60 days from the date of purchase or registrant contact information change, you may also transfer your domain to another registrar.

    If you would like to completely cancel your ownership of the domain name, please reply to confirm and I'll be glad to take care of it for you.

    Once you've removed any domains from your site(s) you can delete them by following these instructions: Delete Blog

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but I have recevied an email from "Domain Services" entitled, "Domain Notification: MEG BIGNELL This is your Final Notice of Domain Listing - MEGORACLE.COM" - it tells me my domain will expire on 21/1 and I need to fax details to a number, including payment details. I am a bit suspicious. My blog is and I have received no other domain expiry alert. Am I being scammed? Thank you.

    You bought your domain registration here from WordPress.COM - correct?

    You only need to pay WordPress.COM - there is a whole industry that scams domain name owners for high priced junk services

  8. megbignell - your domain was registered through and is not expiring soon, so you can safely ignore that unsolicited email. As auxclass says, it's a scam.

  9. Hi Kathrynwp

    I didn't receive any notifications of the domain renewal - I no longer use the email address that is associated with the blog, as we closed to blog down and so the address served no purpose. I have checked the email inbox and can not see any reminders to renew in spam or in the in box.

    Either way I would definitely like cancel the domain name as we will not be using it ever again.
