Domain Resgistration Expiration
The Situation – My domain that was registered via third party, Justhost.com expired. I went to justhost and paid to have the domain re registered. I use this domain just to have a custom url on a free wordpress site via remapping.
The domain name is jamiegordonwest.com.
The Problem – The site is not showing up with any my content. I am not sure if I just need to wait 24hrs for the content to repopulate or what? Does letting your domain registration expire just ruin your whole website? How come my old jamiegordonwest.wordpress.com doesn’t work?
It looks like your name servers are set correctly – you might want to double check at your Registrar to make sure they are set to WordPress.COM
jamiegordonwest.wordpress.com – does not work because your domain name jamiegordonwest.com is mapped to it – so it is trying to display jamiegordonwest.com which had some problems when the registration expired –
It can take 24 to 72 hours for changes to migrate to the far corners of the internet
Letting registration expires sends your visitors into limbo – sort of like taking down all the street signs in your neighborhood – your content is safe here – it just takes a while for the street signs to be put up on the correct corners
It seems as if I just needed to wait 10-15 mins. Problem Solved.
I love it when a plan comes together
Note: during the 72 hour period you might see erratic loading because you never visit a web site with the same route so you might find a router that has not been updated yet and send you into oblivion
