Domain vs Blog
I’m new to WordPress and I can’t really figure it out.
If I register a New Blog and pay $17 for a .com adress, does that mean I own the domain? What is the different of paying $99 (then it says you get Domain name and mapping but it sound very expensive if you have to do that to own the domain?)
Why can I register a new blog at the site https://en.wordpress.com/signup/ but not add a domain under Store -> Domains -> Add a domain. What’s the difference?
Conclusion: I want to start up 3 different blogs under 3 different domains that I would like to own!
The $99 bundle includes domain registration and mapping and a few other popular upgrades as well. All in all, if you need those other upgrades, it may work out cheaper for you. All are annually renewable.
As far as signing up and adding a domain, these are two different things, although any domain you add/buy/map has an underlying “yoursite.wordpress.com” in the address.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/register-domain/ and according to the information further down in that Support doc, it does appear that it should be possible to add a new domain under Store>Domains.
Please read the section “Important Notes before you Upgrade” so it is clear to you what you can and cannot do by purchasing the domain upgrade.http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/#important-notes-before-upgrading
You may also want to read http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ so you understand clearly the differences between hosting your site on WordPress.com and running a standalone install of the WordPress software.
