Downloading all media from Media Library
Since my old hard drive bricked, my photoblog is the only back up I have of my old image files. Is there any way for me to easily download the entire contents of my media library to my new hard drive, without having to do every file individually?
The blog I need help with is explosivesinthecargohold.net.
We need the URL of the site in question beginning with http before anyone can give you accurate help.
If you have a WordPress.COM site you probably won’t like the workaround here: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/i-wan-to-backup-my-own-media-library-is-there-any-way?replies=8#post-362261
I have a wordpress.com site, I have nearly 700 photos uploaded at explosivesinthecargohold.net. I’m very eager not to have to download them all manually, so it would be great if I could get more explicit instructions how to use the solution outlined in that linked page.
See here > Go to Tools -> Export in your WordPress.com dashboard to download an XML file of your blog’s content.
Yes, but the XML file doesn’t contain any of the images.
I’m trying to import my wordpress.com blog’s XML file into a new instance of hosted WordPress (version 3.1.1) and the Import dashboard does *NOT* include the checkbox to download and import attached files.
It seems the only option is to FTP these images, but first they need to be exported from the Media Library. So how do we do this?
There isn’t any reason the export file wouldn’t contain the images. It certainly does every time I try it.
I believe the Export file has links to the image files but not the images themselves. The Export / XML file is a plain text file.
The XML export file does NOT contain images, it can’t.
During the import process (if you are importing into either another .COM site, or a .ORG site), you are given the opportunity to have your attachments imported at the same time.
Not in my install of WordPress it doesn’t (and it’s version 3.1.1). The only option I’m presented with during import is what author/user to associate posts with. Nary an attachments checkbox to be found. I’ve had to go ahead and manually download all of my images one by one.
