downloading xml file properly

  • I am trying to get my WP blog hosted and I was instructed to download the database and upload this to the hosting server. I understand this to mean that I need to download the xml file. When I do this, it downloads to my computer and when i clock on the file it reads the following:

The XML page cannot be displayed
Cannot view XML input using XSL style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.
The operation completed successfully. Error processing resource ‘file:///C:/Users/my computer/Downloads/wordpress.2012-06-16.xml’. …
    <atom:link rel=”search” type=”application/opensearchdescription+xml” href=”http://ohlifellc.wordpress.com/osd.xml” title…

This doesn’t mean anything to me but either way, the new hosting server is asking me for:
    hostname –
    username –
    password –
    database name –
    table prefix – wp_

Well, I don’t know the hostname, i suppose I need to make up a username and password there and I don’t know what the database name is. I was expecting a file upload section where I could either browse or click and drag my xml and have it done.

    Anyone? Anything?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • We WordPress.com bloggers do not have access to the database. However, WordPress.org bloggers do have access to their database and that’s why a host name is being requested. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
