eCommerce allowed?

  1. Hi,
Are we allowed to create a blog that sells products that we've made?
In my case: Photography items such as prints & calendars.
    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is snapdp.wordpress.com.

  2. Our free hoisted blogs cannot be equipped for ecommerce transactions with shopping carts. We can use a contact form and/or a PayPal donation button for only products we create and/or services we personally provide.

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/

If you require e-commerce/shopping cart functionality beyond this, there are no restrictions on e-commerce if you set up a self-hosted WordPress.org blog instead of a WordPress.com blog. Please see this link to learn about the differences: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  3. Edit: "hoisted" was meant to be "hosted"

  4. Is self hosting a WordPress blog the only way to do ecommerce? Do any of the paid hosting packages with WordPress allow for or support ecommerce?

  5. Thanks for the explanation timethief!

  6. @chrisfdc
    You're welcome.

  7. Basically, ecommerce of items YOU create is permitted here, but it is not possible because of the security restrictions. The Donate button is your only choice other than linking to an external store.

If you want to do straight ecommerce right on your blog, yes, you need an externally hosted WordPress.ORG blog. The only upgrade here that allows it is the VIP program, which costs thousands of dollars per month.

Yes, provided you have deep pockets and your blog qualifies to be VIP hosted. See here > http://vip.wordpress.com/our-services/

Otherwise the answer is no. If you require e-commerce/shopping cart functionality beyond this, there are no restrictions on e-commerce if you set up a self-hosted WordPress.org blog instead of a WordPress.com blog.
